Fresno, the southern portion of the Central Valley takes up 112 square miles being the fifth most populous city in California with census population of approximately 520,129 as of 2016. Geographically located in the center of the state, surrounding cities, towns, and national parks are only a few hours diving distance from Fresno and Clovis areas.   

    

Three nature destinations include Yosemite National Park (61miles), Kings Canyon National Park (53 miles), and Sequoia National Park (78 miles). Short road trips from Fresno can also take any traveler soothing coastal cities such as San Luis Obispo (145 miles) or Monterey (160 miles).

   

Fresno State University, was founded in 1911 as Fresno State Normal School and began to offer advanced degrees in 1949. Since then, Fresno is proud to announce that 26 departments within the system are accredited by the California Board of Education and the Western Association of Schools and Colleges.

 

Today, Fresno State University is ranked 223 in National College Universities. Renowned departments on campus include exclusive and hands on education in viticulture and enology, engineering, criminology, and business.

    

Not to mention that Fresno is the capital of agriculture in California and this state university heavily contributes to the overall success. Fresno State is the first to operate a commercially bonded winery. Award winning wines fill the shelves of supermarkets and food production is sold to the public at the Gibson Farm Market.

    

Sports teams on campus are regularly recognized for having one of the best collegiate sports teams in the state. Quite frequently Fresno State athletics appear on  NCAA postseason tournaments or featured on television.

   

The Central Valley’s agricultural production covers approximately 1.88 million acres of the world’s farmland. Fresno is the primary source of agriculture in the state and the valley provides 20% of jobs in the Fresno and Clovis area. The productivity that this city has to offer is something to be very proud of. 

    

A popular trademark of Fresno is the Save Mart Center located right beside Fresno State University. The multi-purpose area is utilized for a vast variety of events. Home to the Men and Women’s basketball teams and Women’s Volleyball team, this establishment does not only reflect support of Fresno State athletic teams but events that vastly cover the Central Valley as a whole. Globally recognized musical artists,comedians, and receptions are able to utilize the space as it was intended. Upon entering through any of the multiple entrances, guests fill the stretching hallways and concession stands with draft beer and stadium food sit behind almost every corner. Donor Larry A Shehadey, founder of Producers Dairy Foods is recognized by the 13 story landmark clock tower located externally. Shehadey contributed a major portion of what the Save Mart Center is today.
