Never tried it, as I use the Museumkaart (only for locals!) The I Amsterdam city card is worth the price though, as you can visit for free many amazing museums in Amsterdam, if I was you I would directly go to EYE museum, Stedelijk museum, Hortus Botanicus botanical gardens (my favorite), FOAM photography museum, ARTIS micropia, etc ... so many choices!!
Hey there! The best for you two would be to rent bicycles and move around! All the neighborhoods are worth a look, and the city is small so two days will be enough to see most of it.

Cycle through the beautiful Vondelpark, in De Pijp, the Jordaan, jump in the free ferry (still with your bicycles!) behind Centraal station to NDSM.
