"The Temple of Santa Clara"
Built by Don Diego de Tapia, son of the founder of Querétaro, Don Fernando de Tapia, also known by his native name of Conin.
At the beginning of the seventeenth century, the owner of a large fortune and father of a daughter named Maria Luisa, was agreed to found a convent of clear nuns and his daughter to take the habits of said order. On January 8, 1606, the scriptures for the foundation of the convent were registered, by means of the initial contribution of 50 thousand pesos and what is necessary for its maintenance.
During the colony it was one of the most important and important convents of New Spain, but at present only the church and a small annex remain, and that much of it was destroyed during the Reformation war.
At the beginning of the War of Independence it served as a prison to Josefa Ortiz de Domínguez. The temple has a museum / gallery. There you will find a wide range of articles such as photographs and books about the place. The purchase of these products also helps the restoration.
