No its not at all like that.
India is a place where there are different people with different caste different religions but we still stay together.
Christians eat beef which is a sin for hindus
But still we stay together in same locality as neighbours.
Muslims hate pigs but still many people eat pigs or swine you can say but still we are living together hipe you get the gist
Nobody comes and says why are you eating this that
Everyone respects the others beliefs
Just they dont do the things in front they follow their own beliefs.

I can give you a possibility.
Normally rats are kind of creatures who rome out in dirt, drains, garbage , in search of food
But here in this case they dont need to go to dirty places they have a so called home in the temple
So they are cleaner
This could be a reason why they dont spread virus.
Just what i think.
