@ErmesT, I would not think you were in Italy from your photos. The land looks so dry, desolate, barren. Where are the people? Animals? Life? It must be soo quiet. 

There are many places in California that look like this - hence why California is called "The Golden State." In the summer time, the grass turns yellow, or golden from the summer's heat.
