Route: El Toscar - Painted Cave

Hello everyone:

Sharing with you a discovery I made on Tuesday, while I was exploring.

The Toscar is a valley with a rich natural and cultural heritage. The use of its natural resources over the centuries has led to various settlements and activities whose remains are still preserved.

The water that flows with strength and abundance was used in mills of flour and oil and in factories of paper, glass and electricity that operated on the banks of the ravine at different times in history.

Forest forests and forests and rich pastures allowed the practice of different activities: shepherds with flocks of sheep, collectors of aromatic herbs such as lavender, bee honey, woodcutters that lowered wood pieces. Road highways on roads and many other uses such as coal or lime.

In the area of Toscar you will reach the starting point of the route through the TV-3422 road that passes between Alfara de Carles and the Reguers. You need to take an entree to a paved road (40.860264, 0.384585) where you will find the first indications to reach the parking lot of the Fonts de Toscar, before going through a hill where you will find the castle of Carles, which only preserves remains of the walls and some parts of the walls.

At the foot of the hill there are the remains of the Romanesque church that is currently preserved as a hermitage of Sant Julià. It is believed that the castle was built in the 12th century.
You can also get access from Alfara de Carles on foot along the GR-171, with a 3.5 km route to the hermitage of Santa Llúcia and 6.5 km to the Toscar car park.

@Julien44

I have never been to the south of France. In fact, I have not traveled much, but I think it's time to explore the world. It's never too late. Now, I try to know a little more about my surroundings, which satisfies me a lot and makes me very happy. By the way, I see that in your comments you add several links: your contributions ... how do you do it ?. I've tried, but I need help. 🙂

Thank you in advance. See you Julien

Re: Route: El Toscar - Painted Cave

Hola @EstherGC

Re: Route: El Toscar - Painted Cave

Buenas tardes @NRJOVIC

https://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Puertos_de_Tortosa-Beceite.

Un abrazo desde Catalunya
