Budapest is the capital of Hungary. It is located in the Medieval valley, on the two banks of the Danube River and occupies an area of over 550 sq. Km. Budapest is one of the most attractive destinations for tourists from Europe and North America and lately also from Asia.
Budapest is actually a union of three towns - Buddha, Obuda, and Pesta. In 106, the Romans founded the Aquincum settlement on the northeast curve of the Danube. Then his population changed several times. The Magyars have come. They departed from the Onogury tribe with roots in Siberia. The Maghreb City, with its palace and oval wall, began to call Buddha, and Aquincum was named Obuda. The opposite side of the river was also inhabited and named Pesta.
After being conquered by the Ottomans and later liberated by the Austrian army in 1869, Hungary became a full-fledged partner in the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy. Budapest became one of the most important river ports of the Danube, and soon an industrial center.
And here are some of the main attractions in the city that are worth visiting...
The Citadel was built after the 1848-1849 revolution. from Habsburg Austria, as a military fortress, and is located at the highest point of the city. The construction was completed in 1854. and its main function is to intimidate the Hungarian rebels. During the Second World War, the citadel was used for air defense, and for this reason, there were many bomb damage. During this period a bunker was built on 3 levels. In the citadel, you can see an exhibition of wax figures, objects, and a photo exhibition called the "siege of Budapest" from 1944 to 1945.
The Fisherman's Bastion is a terrace with seven towers. It was designed and built between 1895 and 1902. by Frighis Schulek. In 1947 - 1948, his son Janos Shulek restores devastation made during the Second World War. The bastion is performed in Neo-Gothic and Neorimian style. It is located on the west bank of the Danube - in Buda, near the Matthias church. The seven towers symbolize the seven Hungarians (Hungarian) tribes who settled in the Carpathian Basin in 896. The name of the bastion dates from the Middle Ages when a group of fishermen protected and preserved the building. The view from there is truly astonishing. You can see the Danube, the Margaret Island, the eastern part of the city - the Pest and Gellert Hill. In the bastion is also the statue of Stefan I of Hungary, which is mounted on a horse. He is the first Hungarian king. On the pedestal on which the statue is placed are depicted episodes of King's life.
The Matthias church is located in the Buda Castle area. According to the belief, the church was built in 1015. The present look of the building was performed in the lush late Gothic style - the second half of the 14th century and was restored in the late 19th century. It is the second largest church in a medieval Buddha. The most artistic and characteristic element of the facade is the bell tower of the church. The official name of the church was Virgin Mary, but it was later named after King Matthias Corvis, who transformed the southern tower of the church. Both Weddings of the King were served there. A curious fact is the miracle of Virgine Mary in the siege of the Buddha. In the Muslim siege, one of the walls of the church was broken. Behind it was hidden sculpture of Virgine Mary. After this, the Saints appeared to the Muslims before their prayer. The garrison's faith collapsed and they retreated from the city. Thus, Virgine Mary saved the Buddha and the church.
The Széchenyi Chain Bridge is a hanging bridge over the Danube that connects the eastern and western parts of the city - Buda, and Pesta. It is the first bridge in Budapest and was opened in 1849. At both ends, there are 2 squares - Roosevelt Square and Adam Clark Square. The name of the bridge comes from the main supporter and advocate of the idea of the bridge - the policy of Istvan Secheni. The bridge was considered a miracle of the world. It was of great importance for the country's economy and life. It has become a symbol of progress, national awakening, and the relationship between the East and the West.
The Heroes' Square is one of the main squares in Budapest, which is of great historical and political importance. It is located at the end of Andrássy Avenue, next to the city park. The Heroes' Square is surrounded by two important buildings - the Museum of Fine Arts on the left and the Art Palace on the right. On the other side are the buildings of the Serbian Embassy and a residence. The main landmark of the square is the Millennium Memorial, with statues of the seven tribal leaders who founded Hungary. The construction of the monument began in 1896. when celebrating the 1000th anniversary, and was completed in 1929. Then he gets his name.
