Bangladesh: Sonargaon, once the capital of Bengal

Sonargaon, or Golden City, was the eastern capital of Bengal at various times in history. It slipped into decline when Muslim rulers decided to move their capital to Dhaka in the 17th century, and is now little more than a couple of villages with a scattering of ruins. See the remaining of Bangladesh old capital, the Folk Arts & Crafts Museum, abandoned city Panam, abandoned Hindu temple and life at chars (small island) on mighty river Meghna in this day tour.
In the museum, all the local folklore items are displayed, where you’ll discover the heritage of this country. It is surrounded by gardens and pools, making a very calm place. In Panam Nagar, you’ll wonder in a abandoned city from early 20th century, while visiting Goaldi Mosque will take you back to the Sultanate period in Bengal. Sonargaon, capital of Bengal one upon a time, is one of the most important and attractive spot. Sonargaon was the capital of the ancient kingdom ruled by Isa Khan of Bengal. Old Sonargaon can be found near Narayanganj and is considered to be one of the first and oldest capitals of Bengal. Sonargaon was known known as “The City of Panam” and was a focal part of the renowned Deva Dynasty until the thirteenth century. Mainly middle or upper class people inhabited Sonargaon during that time period. Many people still visit the historic city of Sonargaon. They are attracted by its immense beauty and by the ruins of buildings and relics that date back to the era of Bengal. The Goaldia Mosque is situated in the Goaldia village and is a wonderful example of an ancient Sonargaon building. The folklore Museum is another attraction, which is visited by many.
The Folklore Museum of Sonargaon houses a variety of artifacts from all over Bangladesh, representing the many cultural groups that exist in this country. For those interested in historical and archaeological relics, which have been unearthed from Sonargaon, the Jainal Abedin Museum is a good place to visit. You can still see the intact shrines of Shah Abdul Alia and Panjpirs, and the Tomb of Sultan Ghias-Ud- Din. If you travel just out of Sonargaon, into the countryside, you will see an example of a Mughal Palace and an old museum. These two buildings are located on beautiful grounds with lots of birds, trees and plants, a pond and a number of sheltered walks.

Re: Bangladesh: Sonargaon, once the capital of Bengal

Nice contributions @MahmudPolash ! It is a most important historical place of Bangladesh. It was the seat of medieval Muslim rulers, the governors of eastern Bengal. Different rulers used Sonargaon as their capital from 13th century. Now a days, very few trace of the capital is remaining in sonargaon but overall scenario is very nice. Every day, thousands of visitors come here to learn about the tradition of Sonargaon. Here you can also see Sadarbari, Khasnagar dighi, Dulalpur Nilkuthi, Goaldi Shahi Mosque, Aminpur Moth, Damodardi Moth etc. It is a mix of Indian, European and Mughal architecture. For more details about this place to know please go through the link here. Thanks again @MahmudPolash for this post.
