Re: How to take great food photos for Eat Like a Local Month

Hi @AnnaDickson

Some excellent advice - particularly like the idea when taking night shots of asking friends to shed some light on the problem 🙂

Cheers

Re: How to take great food photos for Eat Like a Local Month

Nice tips @AnnaDickson some other tips I'd add are

  • During the day ask for a seat by a window and sit (generally) with your back to the window when you're shooting your food image
  • At night you can carry a small light, there are a lot of natural soft LED based daylight colour temperature lights that will work very well
  • Fill most of the frame with your food, but some dead space around it that isn't busy is important
  • Brace your phone when you shoot because even during the day the shutter speed can be slow
  • Think of your image as the # from a hashtag - put the main element on a join in the # where the lines cross - doesn't really matter which one but it gets a pleasing result - this is called the rule of thirds

It's great to see such passion for food and photography 🙂

Don't forget, starting next Monday, to upload your breakfast pictures to your social channels using both hashtags #LocalGuides #onGoogleMaps. Google Maps will feature some on their own social channels (and that is huge!)
