Why @AhadinF shares discoveries #OnGoogleMaps

Former Google Contributor

All around the world, Local Guides are helping others make discoveries by tagging photos of amazing places with #OnGoogleMaps. Among the most prolific and inspiring explorers is @FahmiAdimara, a.k.a. Ahadin Syarifudin Fahmi Adimara, a photographer and Local Guide Level 8 from East Java, Indonesia.

Ahadin knows his hometown of Sidoarjo like the back of his hand, and he’s eager to show it off. By hosting meet-ups, he brings other Local Guides on tours around his city to take photos and share them on Google Maps as they go. “We will pick a place for the group to end up at and then we will go on a walking tour,” he says. “After the photo walk, we’ll have a food crawl to different bars and restaurants.”

It was Ahadin’s love of travel that led him to becoming a Local Guide in 2015. He wanted to help others find inspiring and interesting places, and the program allowed him to meet people who were looking for new experiences. His meet-ups have led to new opportunities: He’s been invited by the Tourism Ministry in Indonesia to help promote destinations in the country.

Many of Ahadin’s favorite places to photograph are in the wilderness, like Tumpak Sewu Waterfall in East Java. He first visited this natural wonder two years ago, and he’s since returned several times with visitors. “Some of my international friends didn’t believe it was real,” he says. “But now I recommend it to people on Google Maps. I love the view.”
