Now on iOS: uncover missing info on Google Maps

Former Google Contributor

[12/18/2020] UPDATE: As of December 2020 , the Uncover missing info feature on iOS is no longer available. Please visit the Google Maps Help Center for more information.

We have exciting news for Local Guides on iOS: one of your most-requested features just went live! Now you can uncover missing info on Google Maps.

Here’s how it works:

  • Open Google Maps for iOS
  • Go to Your contributions
  • Tap Uncover missing info

You’ll see nearby places that need your help. Tap each one to see what it’s missing. You’ll be able to add a phone number, website, or category, then move on to next place. It’s a great way to see where your knowledge can help others—not to mention a fast, fun way to earn Local Guides points.

We’d love to know what you think about this new way to share on Google Maps for iOS! Tell us in the comments.

Very good information! I've been testing it and it's perfect. The only thing that there are places like places or public places that does not apply the phone numbers. There should be an option that "Does not apply"

@YK1001 thank you for tagging seems like my bad luck. I'm not sure when and how I comment here.

This helped me get the expert fact finder badge. Great feature; however, I agree there should be a “does not apply” option. The program requests phone numbers and websites for ATMs that have been added to the map.

Thank you for that information!

Very good news!

@HelloJess

Wow , this is a great idea , also while I was using it only 6 minutes ago I found a duplicate location.

One english and one chinese and at the same POI location.

A side note though and I wonder if it's been reported

The tool is currently asking for phone numbers and website etc for Bridges ,Parks , Local Gardens, Bank ATM's etc.

Anyway it's still a great tool with the bug.

Level 7

@GenerolHavoc

For parks, I’ve been putting the number for the local parks department. For bridges, municipalities also have street maintenance divisions. Should something be wrong with the bridge, it would be nice for the citizen to contact the appropriate department. It may actually be good for Google to have included the phone number/website for those places.

I’ve even rethought my comments on the ATM. I think it would be wise to include the 1-800 number for the company that owns the ATM.

@HelloJess Thanks for your information.

Hmm , Ok I can see why it was added

Though thinking about it , within my area all of the parks , gardens and bridge are handled by the Council.

ATM's are harder as some do have numbers on them though some don't ( need to have a fault before number is displayed )

Anyway thanks , it's given me something to look into.

Level 8

This is great. This is really great.

A big thanks to @HelloJess.

I am a IOS user. I was looking for this option for a long time.

Big opportunities to all local guides to make the map more batter place and more effective to use and informative.

Level 7

Hello All

Anyone noticed since this rolled out , no points have been given and Total edits is not going up.

Anyway my Total edits still says 38 though I know I've done over 200 and I also haven't gotten points.

I wonder if the system is lagging behind due to everyone using this to edit which has caused an increase in edits.

Yea I know , I just added websites and phone numbers to 20 + parks , though it was easy as they are all looked after by the same Council.

NICE

Its awsome for ios users.i had tried this when i was using android.it really cool thing and update missing information by using this.

Level 9

Great!

Level 9

Ok

Level 10

As others have said, a N/A option would be really handy for those items on the map that don't necessarily have a phone number.

Or, for example, for ATMs associated with a bank, should I put the local branch's contact details?

Level 10

@cakeinmilk ATMs is exception:

In order to qualify for a Google My Business listing, a business must make in-person contact with customers during its stated hours.

There are some exceptions:

ATMs, video-rental kiosks, and express mail dropboxes are permitted. If you add these locations, you must include contact information for customers to get help.

Great thing. Extremely useful 🙂

Level 7

yeap, useful thing) There's so much to add on Google Maps...for instance, just in my block there were more than 15 places missing info...nice way to improve Google Maps quality. Thanks

Level 10

I'm not an apple user, but it's always great to see them eventually included. Nice!

Level 5

Would be a lot easier to Update Information on my Laptop.  However this works great for finding stuff that needs correcting.

Level 6

Updates don't come on quickly for most of us that make use of ios.  IOS versions of updates should be released at the same time Andriod versions are released as well.

Good addition @HelloJess

Now IOS users can also contribute

Just updated the Google Maps app on my iPhone, and this feature disappeared.  What happened???
