Moderation comes to Google Maps for Mobile

Former Google Contributor

Today we are announcing new and easier ways for Google Maps and Google Search users to suggest and moderate edits to information about a place.

Moderation: You can verify suggested edits from others

We heard the feedback that Local Guides wanted to be able to extend their knowledge over more areas of Google Maps and that you wanted faster approvals of your edits. Now you can help approve edits suggested by others, ultimately reducing the amount of time it takes for edits to appear on the map. For places that have pending suggestions, you’ll see a notification stating that “Someone suggested new info.” If you click or tap that notification, you’ll have the option to verify whether the suggestion is accurate. Once enough votes are received to be confident that the suggestion is accurate, it’s published to the map. This feature is available to Android users on the Google Maps app and both Android and iOS users on mobile Google Search.

The following information about a place can be user-edited and voted on through this new system:

  • Existence (whether a place is permanently closed or doesn’t exist)
  • Title
  • Address
  • Category
  • Phone
  • Website
  • Business hours

Google-wide: You can add places or suggest edits from more places
We’ve expanded the ability to add missing places and edit existing business or landmark information worldwide on both the Google Maps app (Android, iOS) and through Google Search. This lets people contribute new and updated information to Google Maps from more places—whether they’re searching for a new restaurant on Google.com or looking for a nearby convenience store while on the go.

Great...

but I use an old smartphone, with big limitations (small memory)... then I can't update GMaps APP to the lastest version nor install news APP...

On Desktop I started using MapMaker recently... last month... before I ever used the GMaps to some little contribution...

Here in São Paulo I noticed a serious problem... a lot of SPAM specially about "desentupidora",  "detetizadora" and "desinsetizadora" adding FAKE places in all neighborhoods and Cities, different of their primary/sede address (when it exists!) and using same Phone Number on ALL places ! :-
If possible, I suggest to create an Black List where we can add some Words (localized language) to be moderated and revised by high level users (5 or 4)... when used in the Local Name/Title ! 😉

Level 8

Great news @Corrie. Tks

Level 7

great enhancements, thanks guys!

Level 3

I have a question about that: when we add or change a information, we earns points?

Level 10

@NinoF, yes, we can earn points by correcting wrong information

For more details on earning points and different levels, refer -  https://support.google.com/local-guides/answer/6225851?hl=en

Level 7

@NinoF hi NinoF, that's right we are getting a point for every new added place and every correction  (like opening hours).

Level 3

@AmithES and @IvanLondon    thank's 😉

Level 8

Thank you for sharing. Great news. Think most local guides are closer to the places than Google staff to verify the new informations.

Asia especially is changing constantly. An empty lot close to my house is housing 2 businesses now. Google maps is still showing an empty lot in street view.

Level 9

Editing Places is my favorite. I things this is very helpful features. Excellent Thanks

Level 9

New Addition of like the Review option also have been seen now .

That is also a good addition and so that Local Guide will think of providing a new information useful to others .

This is also a good addition

Hi @Corrie

Thanks

Great improvements

We are not able to see and unable to moderate the changes that users in Turkey make in the maps. However, strangely we are able to confirm the changes of addresses is in other countries. Are you aware of the problem we are experiencing? Are there any conditions for Turkey which we are not aware?

Hello @Corrie

I live in Turkey and i realised that we can not approve or deny the editing. I mean I can not moderate "yes" if it is true, "no" or "not sure". There is nothing to moderate. But i can moderate if i zoom in out of Turkey and zoom in another country. So what i'm thinking is that you are not deployed this feature for Turkey. The Turkey region can not moderatable suggestions! what should we do ?
