Introducing new badges on Google Maps

Google Moderator

[Updated on Nov 20] Badges are now available for all Local Guides on Android and iOS.

[Updated on Oct 11] Badges are coming soon for everyone, but we’re experiencing a delay on Google Maps for Android. Stay tuned for more info in the coming weeks.

Do you love taking photos? How about reviewing the places you visit? Maybe you’re into exploring new areas, or adding details about places to help others get around.

Local Guides share their knowledge in many ways. That’s why, starting today, we’re introducing badges to recognize different kinds of top contributors on Google Maps.

Here are the four new badges you can earn right now:

Reviewer

You’ll earn this badge by writing detailed reviews that help people decide where to go.

Photographer

This badge is for sharing photos of places, so others can see the world on Google Maps.

Trailblazer

Here’s the badge for exploring. Earn it by being the first to add, review, or take a photo of a place.

Fact Finder

Earn this badge by checking facts, making edits, and answering simple questions about places to help people find the right information on Google Maps.

By sharing more, you can get upgrades for each one. For example, a Novice Photographer can become an Expert Photographer, and then reach legendary status as a Master Photographer. Your past contributions will be factored in too, so some of you may have already reached that status!

This feature is rolling out over the next few weeks. To see if it’s on your device right now, go to “Your contributions” on Google Maps for Android or iOS. There, you’ll see your progress toward each badge. Tap each one to see how to earn the more advanced version of your new badge.

Rolled out in Massachusetts. Didn't fare as well as I'd hoped. These icons would look good on a free t-shirt.

From today also in Spain on my Android mobile ;)

@HelloJess

Being a Pixel user I got the update only on 20/11/17 .

So understanding that Android is coming as a second priority for Google.

I was a Google fan with a strong belief that a OS for computer will be given for Computer users and Dominate the world .

Like Android a Operation system for Computer by Google is the most expected things as Google webstore is having more than sufficient apps for people for daily like and kids for learning.

With the availability of access to Internet with Jio in India the service have become cheaper and a daily limit for use made the people use more internet on a daily basis .

Instead of using what's app and Facebook , Google webstore provide lot of products free to use .

Never seen that Google promoting those wonderful products .

Example 3d home design , Sheets etc

Some schools are taking advantage of My classroom and all but it is rarely used .

Hope Google will be the next company to bring the Operation System for Computer

A new game - the race for aching began!

Level 8

Hello @HelloJess and all LGs. I've done some testing with the stats on the new badges and from this believe that the stats for Reviewer and Trailblazer badges are not counting correctly.

Reviewer

Reach on the Reviewer badge is incorrect and inconsistent with the Reviews shown on the Contribution home tab.

Photos (Add the first photo of 50 places) on the Trailblazer badge  is not incrementing

To further add to the confusion, where it is possible to compare, the statson the mobile badges and those on the desktop do not totally agree with each other :-(

Can this be investigated?

Level 7

Cant see any badges now, but they were in maps just in few days before. Now I can't find it - no matter where web or Android App.

Why? Maybe it somehow connected with my update to 8.1 Android DP2 on my phone.. Really miss that feature now.

Level 7

I have mine on android, I still haven't seen them on the web on my Windows computer.

Level 10

@Gabisdaddi:

Read the topic: To see if it’s on your device right now, go to “Your contributions” on Google Maps for Android or iOS. There, you’ll see your progress toward each badge.

Level 7

@SergeySud What you should have said was, something like, "Don't forget, @HelloJess said this is for Google Maps for Android or iOS only".

Level 10

@Gabisdaddi Many years ago I asked in advance to excuse me for my bad English. :) So, well said -  don't forget, for now, this feature is actually for Google Maps for Android or iOS only.

Level 8

nice

Level 7

Same here @HelloJess

I have mine on my Android Note 8 but no on my Windows 10.

It is interesting how Maps behaves on Windows 10 not logged into Chrome.

Level 7

Greetings @HelloJess

Will we be notified when the rest of our 200+ words reviews will be credited their due points? 99+% of my reviews are 200 words at minumum.

Level 5

Xcited about it.

Level 8

@HelloJess

Yes, I am very glad seeing these beautiful changes in my androids. These are nice badges and also improves our working.

Thanks a lot for all these.

Level 8

Hey! I made it to level 8 today! This is a really good achievement for any one!
