Edit a road segment on Google Maps for desktop

4/27/17 UPDATE: The ability to edit road segments in Google Maps on Android and iOS is now available to all Google Maps users.

As we announced last November, we’re working to graduate Map Maker functionality into core Google Maps products. We have since released features enabling Local Guides to moderate recent edits to nearby places on Google Maps for Android and on your desktop computer (with an iOS version coming soon). We are focused on continuing to develop great moderation experiences, so stay tuned for new updates throughout the year.

One of the most requested features to bring to Google Maps from Map Maker is the ability to add and edit roads. Today we are launching the first part of a revamped editing flow in Google Maps targeting road segment editing. This first launch features a new selection UI and the ability to report issues on multiple road segments at once on desktop Google Maps (for Level 5 Local Guides) and Google Maps for Android (slowly rolling out to everyone).  

How to edit a road segment:

1. Open Google Maps on your desktop computer OR the Google Maps app for Android
2. Tap = to open the side menu
3. Scroll down to “Send Feedback”
4. Tap “Edit the map”
5. Tap the road segment you want to edit
6. Tap “Next”
7. Suggest the changes for the road you selected (Name, Incorrectly drawn, One-way/two-way, Closed, or Private)
8. Tap Send

      

Look for more announcements in the future, including the ability to report a missing road, report issues on a full route, and further down the line, report more complex attributes like real-time closures and events.

Certainly good feature desired within the Maps.

As a Level 5 user, it would be much helpful to fix wrongly aligned road segs from desktop version. Here in our country - Nepal - we seriously need this feature as roads are always on expansion and new ones undergoing. Just checked, the feature is not yet available for my city  Pokhara.

Hoy utilice la herramienta nueva de Google Maps en mi Android Phone, es muy interesante ya que antes no se podía hacer nada de esto, en mi caso coloque los nombre de algunas calles que no los tenían. Pero es justo reconocer que le falta caminar bastante más, para considerarla una herramienta que reemplazará a Map Maker,

• Me gustaría poder ver un editor completo de segmentos
• Me gustarìa poder continuar en edición de mapas después que realice una acción
• Me gustaría que tenga más opciones a tildar como por ejemplo mano derecha / mano izquierda / doble mano 
• La calle de que tipo es pavimentada / ripio / consolidada
• La ruta es Provincial / nacional / camino rural / camino rural privada / sendero 

hay otras opciones que quizas la recarguen un poco, pero no hay que desesperar realmente es un gran avance para darle más control a los Local Guides  que vivimos en la zona y la conocemos mejor.

I will encourage you to post at "Feedback & Feature Request" board, so that it will be easier to track the troubleshooting of your issue.

It's good for modifying existng roads but the ability to actually extend and connect roads that are added already. It's a bit trickier for roads that don't yet exist in Maps and I have found many in Jakarta and Qatar (which doesn't even allow us to report missing roads!).

Its a great function introduced in google map. But we want more to enrich google map.Since mapmaker is closing soon so adding road will be be necessary for gmap. Some time the navigation is incorrect for lack of proper existing road in physical but not in map. Please add adding road feature in gmap to make the gmap better for every one, because I think road is primary thing in map.

I just used it to suggest a modify, but I needed also to explain that all the houses next to the road are destroyed and now there is a big market mall.

How can do that?

What a great function! It would be great if we could add a 'traffic hotspot' and even a flag of a dangerous intersection so drivers can approach with caution. 🙂

Saya berharap bisa membuat segmen jalan yang sebelumnya belum ada dalam maps atau membuat jalan baru. Saat sekarang aplikasi android hanya bisa mengedit NAMA JALAN,bukan MEMBUAT jalan. Ada yang menyarankan menggunakan/menambah flyover dan setidaknya seperti itulah fitur yang harus ada dalam maps.

harapan saya ada tersedian fitur PEMBUAT JALAN BARU(NEW ROAD) untuk android. Tersedia saat ini fitur EDIT NAMA JALAN  yang salah atau nama jalan sudah diganti otoritas setempat.

Tindakan yang bisa dan sudah saya lakukan adalah mengirim masukan dan melaporkan kepada admin foogle maps namun saya sekarang sedang menunggu perobahan dari masukan laporan saya.
