Early access: Save lists of places in Google Maps

Former Google Contributor

UPDATE: Starting January 4, 2017, this feature is now rolling out to Level 2+ Local Guides on Android and iOS.

UPDATE: Starting November 8, 2016, this feature is now rolling out to Level 3+ Local Guides on Android.

Go beyond stars when saving your places — soon you’ll be able to organize your places into special lists such as Favorites and Want to Go, or save custom lists all on your own, like:

  • Best burgers in Manhattan
  • July 2017 trip to Mexico City
  • Places to take mom and dad when they visit

We’re rolling out lists to Level 4+ Local Guides on Google Maps for Android over the next week — months before we launch to the public. If you're a Level 4 Local Guide, give it a try, and don't forget to shake to give feedback. You'll need to have the latest version of Google Maps for Android installed.

See how lists work in this video:

How to create lists of places

  1. Make sure you have the latest version of Google Maps for Android

  3. Search for a place or tap it on the map
  4. At the bottom of the screen, tap the place's name or address
  5. Tap Save
  6. Select the list where you’d like to save the place

@Corrie @YK1001 any reason that the new special lists are not synced to Maps in browser?

I would like to organize my starred places in different list, but if I do so, I will miss these places in the browser.

A sync of all lists is also much needed because of the sync issue which you could have if you have several hundreds of starred places.

Hi @geoosm,  access of this feature in Desktop Maps is a highly requested feature.  But Google normally do not disclose future product development plans.  We are told when features are released so let's keep waiting....

Level 9

@YK1001 can imagine that.

Users reorganize their starred places and then come to the Maps forum and asked us "where are my starred places?".

I know about the future statement.

Only want make for sure that Google is aware of this and that this will possible before this feature is open for the public.

Level 3

Having used the feature a little more, I've found a definite problem.

I use saved places to make lists of and then explore places I think might be worth camping. For this I drop a pin and save it to a list. But the way items are displayed in the list makes them virtually indistinguishable from one another.

In the above screen shot you can see I have a mixed list of places and dropped pins. But no way to tell where the dropped pins are until I click on them. One way to fix this would be to make the label I add to the saved place the title. I have added a label to each of these hoping that would solve the problem. But it didn't work.

Hello,

Very nice feature indeed!

Sorry if the point has already been raised, but why is this not available for desktop? When I'm back home, or when I plan to leave, it's much more comfortable to work on a desktop and I would like to have the registered places ordered or reviewed on GMaps 😉

- Very useful, definitely a killer feature for maps.

- Wold be great if user can share the list!

- I'm so happy, finally can get rid of Super-Hard-to-Use-My-Maps

- Thank you, Maps team. Please never give up this function!!!

I don't understand why I still don't see this feature. I'm Level 5, and despite the announcement earlier this week I don't see the feature in my main G Suite account (which is Level 5) and neither in my default Google Account (@gmail, which no taking part in the LG program).

Hi @individual8,

I have similar experience during the roll out of the give thumbs up to review feature.

I did not receive the feature while other are using it for months.  I keep reporting it and ultimately I got it.

Good luck!

Great addition! But how can we access different lists on the web (google.com/maps)? If it's still not possible, is there any ETA for it?

Level 8

Why so long on desktop availability?  This feature's disconnect between mobile app and desktop is preventing me from fully embracing.

Level 3

I love this.  But why can't I see the saved list I created on my Galaxy 7 on my PC?

Tested on iOS, works beatifully. Thanks. Learn something new every day.

Level 7

seems like development has stalled out on this feature....no way to discover lists around me that I can see, no desktop support....very difficult for people to even find this feature unless they are power users.  HMM?

Level 10

Hi, can anyone explain why saved place is still not available in the G Suite account? I really need this feature in the G Suite account.
