We know Local Guides love discovering new places on Google Maps and helping others make better decisions. Many of you have also shared feedback about the program over the last year, and we’ve listened.

We rolled out new levels, new badges, and an update that rewards even more points for your contributions that help people most.

More ways to contribute and points that reflect your impact

Higher impact contributions, like being the first to add a place on the map or leaving a thoughtful review, earn more points. We’ve also added more ways to contribute. Local Guides can now earn points for rating places and checking facts on the map added by others. Points will be awarded to contributions you’ve already made, and will be updated with the new changes. You may have even changed levels.

Contribution Points.png

Instant recognition

You’re now instantly recognized for your contributions. A “thank you” screen will display how many points you’ve earned for contributions like reviews and photos.

ThankYou.png

Reach new levels

Along with the updated points, come five new levels. That’s right, you can now reach up to level 10, a status we know many of you have been eager to attain.

With these new levels come fantastic new badges for levels 4 through 10. This allows you to update your badge with each milestone, and stand out as a top Local Guide. These badges will appear next to profile photos for Local Guides on Google Maps and across relevant Google channels.

For example, this means I, Traci, went from Level 5 with 3,294 points...

Ohh, thats 75% off a movie rental...

Local guides

Google

Level 7

@TraciC As per calculation my points should me 32853, level 8. But now I only got 6,183 points level 7. What should I do ?

Level 8

Hi! Could someone explain to me if road edits are counted as "Edits"? As I get reports of published edits, but dont seem to get any points.

Level 10

@EdmundasJ There is separate measure known as road length. It must be counted there in miles/Kms. But this comes when you add a new feature. I don't know if you are talking about editing exiting road or totally new addition ?

Level 10

@CapitalH Did you calculate it from number of edits you have made and then multiplied points as per shown in table ?

Level 8

@Trail_blazer I'm specifically talking about adding road names (to multiple segments of road) and reporting missing/closed roads.

Level 9

Level 7

I hope the admin is more wise the subject of the original edit, because i'm feel a will people for use tool editing and review.

complete coment in indonesia language " admint from indonesia please come here" :

@kmaiyuran These level are mainly to classify the LGs. It doesn't say you are bound to add this much work by certain time. You need to be neutral while doing you work not to be driven by points and rewards. If work is consistent everything will come easily.

Level 7

Great updated.. Keep on moving level .. 😄

Level 8

A helpful update - thank you. One suggestion for Googlers and also for reviewers (which is quite subjective, based on my own experience as a reviewer): I believe the photos should not be 5 points PER photo, because many people post the same or simliar photos as those already posted. I am fairly judicious about which photos I post - and try to always check which photos are already there before I upload a photo (how many photos of a frothy Capuccino do we really need?). I usually aim for two helpful or interesting photos that haven't already appeared. Even with more points offered for more photos, I'll continue to go with "curated restraint" to not photo-spam the system. I do really love the new "thank you" pop up among the recent changes. As a "gamified" system, I find the immediate recognition very motivating - so cheers for that (and for keeping us interested and contributing, in general) - Great work to Google Local Guides organizers - and to @traciC for this post. Signing off from sunny Charlotte, NC, USA. Go Local Guides! (that's us). 🙂

@Shiranga

Have a look what our Community Moderator @ermest says.

It happens sometimes, due probably to an update of the database.

If you do a search you will find a lot of old post about this issue. Don't spend time reading all, just go to the end of every topic and you will see that, oh a few hours / days all the points are back.

So enjoy mapping and wait a bit. It is not a real problem.

Level 7

Tengo MALAS EXPERIENCIAS al respecto: he reportado innumerables veces

Hoy perdi 300 puntos. ¿Que sucedera mañana? Voy a mirar con temor el contador....

Level 6

@deepakjhic

Thanks for your support.

I checked now and noticed I have lost more points. All together something around 1000 points. Anyway will see.

Level 6

@TraciC What about updated Perks, like getting to particiapate in product testing, a chance to attend the Local Guides Conference, etc at different levels?

Priyansh Kapoor

That was amazing.

Level 8

@TraciC , Looks like there is an error . My rating count = 7 & my review count is 1000+. Ideally, my ratings count should also be 1000+ since a review is not possible without a rating. I find that for every new review I add, I get 5+1 points. But for my older reviews, I got only 7 points for ratings (instead of 1134+7) points for ratings. i.e., reviews got me only 5 points - the rating which was provided along with the review was not considered for points.

When the points were revised, there seems to have been an error. can you pls look into this?

Level 7

¡ASOMBROSO, NO?!
