Ciao a tutti,
Grazie @Corrie

Hi ermest
Unfortunately it is not simply a matter of enabling a new category. The fact that a category is missing is often an indication that it is not allowed on the map, not everything that exists in the real world can be mapped.
One thing to remember is that in order to be mapped a feature must have a name. That's an actual name like "McDonald's" not a descriptive name like "Restaurant". So we can't add a feature and call it "Drinking Fountain" or "Water Vending on Via Postumia Ovest" because those are descriptions not proper names.
For features that can't be added to the base map a custom map can be an alternative https://www.google.co.uk/maps/about/mymaps/

Aldo 🙂

Even though the category may exist in MapMaker the same rule applies to naming, descriptive names are not allowed. We need to be a bit careful advising others of ways to map that seem to getting around the system, perhaps @Flash who is a MM expert can comment on these drinking fountains added via MM?

Hi @ErmesT
You use a very interesting example because the addition of toilets has been specifically covered in this thread : "We have been clearly told by Google NOT to use descriptive names"
Yes it is possible to add them and many exist on the map, but there is also a lot of bad spam on the map. Mistakes are made. Just because something is on the map doesn't mean it should be there and we shouldn't use a bad example on the live map and say: "OK, this has been approved therefore I can do the same thing"
On a side note I think those toilets have been incorrectly mapped anyway. The feature is a Compound Building which has been given the name Public Toilets https://goo.gl/W5CqGf . Generally speaking buildings aren't named with the 'business' that occupies them because the business may close and a new one open at the same location, but the building remains constant.

Hi ermest, you are absolutely correct, things evolve and rules change especially with Google Maps - the rules on Meeting Places changed a while back.
The rules on toilets or drinking fountains or descriptive naming may change. However we can only map within the current system that Google decides for us, not what we hope the rules will be in future.
