Fact Check Clarification

There are situations where a shop get permanently closed and a new shop has started in the same place. And there is a edit suggestion to change the name of the previous business to new business name. What should we do in those cases?

Re: Fact Check Clarification

Dear upeksha1996, hope all's well with you.

1. Deny the edit to change the name because one place doesn't change into another, it's only open or closed for business.

2. Suggest an edit to permanently close the closed place.

3. Add a new place for the newly opened business, as in: https://support.google.com/maps/answer/7084895

Re: Fact Check Clarification

Another option would be to mark the former company as "moved to a new location" since this is so often the case.

I have used this option in the past and have entered the new address of the company and its map location and have had the edits accepted almost immediately.

The submission form most definitely NEEDS a notes or comments field so that the levels of misunderstanding and misinterpretation can be effectively reduced when an edit is pending and is going to be looked at by a human being rather than some poorly concocted Google Maps Bot.
