Re: Duplicate Places

Hello,

Duplicate Places can be removed from map. if you know the place you are searching for you can pic it from list drop down or you can be more specific like "place+location" example MacDonald+India or  MacDonald+USA there are many places in same name but in different locations. if there is a duplicate place in same location then can be removed one place will be the original. map makers like me always adds places we go. if there is a mistake you can start suggesting edits.

kind regards

Re: Duplicate Places

Duplicates may exist for the following reason

1-  "Chain/Franchise/Branches" which are legit because you can have different locations for different stores

2- Wrong Tagging - Someone visited a place but tagged it at some other location

3- Place has closed down but has not been updated

In both 2 & 3, you can click the location and navigate to the place that says suggest an edit and you can say mark it as closed, moved etc. This will go to some local guide who will approve or reject the edit 🙂

Hope that helps!

Re: Duplicate Places

Hi Nabeel

You need to be clear on your terminology and techniques here or you may mislead other LGs.

A chain with multiple locations or branches is not a 'legit' duplicate, it is not a duplicate in any sense.

A place that has closed down is not a duplicate, it is simply a place that closed and should be marked as such.

A duplicate is when the same business at the same location is represented more than once. To mark a duplicate you first need to work out which is the 'bad' listing, you should check if one listing is Claimed and then mark the other as the duplicate. If neither are Claimed, check the accuracy and pick the least accurate. If they are equally accurate and neither are claimed, pick the one with fewer reviews and mark that as the duplicate.

Although edits may be looked at by other LGs to give a Yes/No via 'Check the facts', they can't actually approve or reject the edit. That is done by Google behind the scenes

Re: Duplicate Places

Detailed reply @Pea that really gives a detailed look at the issue. @Ghulamd when you find duplicate places and after thoroughly analyzing what Philip has suggested you can:

on Google MAPs

1. Tap on the place you think that is duplicate.

2. When the information regarding the place opens up. Tap on "Suggest an edit"
3. Below the Header "Suggest an edit" there is a toggle button on grey background with the statement "Place has permanently closed or moved or doesn't exist" Tap on the Toggle button.

4. list of options will pop up. select "Duplicate of another place" and then tap "Next icon" on the top right side.

As Philip mentioned than it will be reviewed by the LGs and if that place is really a duplicate place it will be removed from the maps. I hope it will help you as well.
