Deleted entry

We have a much loved local lake called Black Swan Lake at Bundall in Queensland Australia. The community put a lot of work into adding the lake to google maps and adding images and reviews. Suddenly the council want it filled in and the map entry has disappeared along with all the photos and reviews.  How is this possible? We made a new entry then someone edited it to 'closed'. How can the community stop malicious activity on this entry? I had hoped the badge levels gave some protection from others deleting entries?

Users are not allowed to add geographic features such as rivers and lakes as points-of-interest (also know as "places").   Those features can only be added by Google staff.

 

It seems that somebody ignored, or was not aware of, this rule and added the lake as a "place".  This error was discovered and the lake removed, by another user or by Google.
