Bug: Shopping centre shops cannot update address

Screenshot_2017-03-28-00-45-49.png

hi all, not sure how this is to be addressed, at first I was of the opinion that the addresses inside the shopping centre may been the work of a spammed until I have tried to correct numerous shops (as above), and they will not correct, or keep reverting to another near by business "Hunter Gourmet Pizzas". The additionally odd thing is that this seems to follow businesses which have moved out of the centre to a new location, yet will still maintain their: "Inside Hunter Gourmet Pizza" addessing

Can anyone supply some info/help on this one, as it's got me stumped.

Thanks

Re: Bug: Shopping centre shops cannot update address

It seems my earlier post was lost....

When you see the "Inside certain place" next to the Address of a Maps Place, it indicates that the Place is claimed and being managed in Google MyBusiness Dashboard.  (As the "Inside" is a feature only availabled to claimed business)

While Google Trusted Photographers are encouraged to get their clients to claim the feature, it is in no way a requirement.  In fact, claiming the feature can delay the ability of being able to attach the tour for a few weeks, so most GTPs tend to avoid it as they don't want the delay in satisfying the customer and/or getting paid.

Hunter's does happen to be claimed, but the Google My Business forum is for helping owners with issues regarding claims; they have little knowledge about mapping.  They will often ping me if a mapping question gets raised there.  This is a map related issue and it was proper to bring it up here.

The "inside" feature is automated.  Looking at the history for Hunter's, it at one time had a polygon attached to it.  While the rules about polygons have changed, a pizza restaurant at no time should have ever had a polygon attached.  This means one of two things:

  • Hunter's and a shopping mall were incorrectly marked as duplicates and merged
  • The addition of the incorrect polygon made the system incorrectly think it was a shopping mall

As the polygon was located across the street at the much larger mall, the former is more likely.  In either case, though, even where Map Maker is available it has never had the tools to fix either issue.  The solution, thus, is to use "Send Feedback -> Other Feedback" and write something along the lines of:

"Hunter Gourmet Pizza, seen on the map at https://goo.gl/FUWc9p, is being used by multiple POIs as the name of the shopping mall they are within, rather than the Stockland Green Hills mall (https://goo.gl/LhIIwM).  Looking at the history the Hunter POI at one time had a polygon attached to it; it either was merged incorrectly with the mall POI or was mistaken by the system for a mall.  Whatever the case, please fix the issue whereby it is being considered to be the local mall.  Examples of places that show as being in the Hunter POI include https://goo.gl/MqnQ1C, https://goo.gl/gZ5Rkb and even a location that moved to https://goo.gl/z4PCbE."

Hi friend, Do not get upset. The edits you do are to be approved by your Regional Leads, the person who has approves the edits of your area. Because there are some many edits waiting in queue it may take time. Or you can contact regional lead for it to be solved.

Re: Bug: Shopping centre shops cannot update address

Hi @RUPAKB thanks for the reply, my address changes have been approved (more than once in some instances) yet still reflect that the shop is inside the pizza shop,  instead of shopping centre.

It appears once it's been set, there may not be a way to reset when you look at the MyHouse business address.

No it can be reset. You again go to edit and now drag the marker to the original place and then submit. Your can edit and change the place as many times as you think is proper so the the people get the correct location and details. Hope I could explain you.

@RUPAKB you have posted similar answers several times, telling people to contact their Regional Leads. Please stop.

Regional Leads are not part of the Local Guide program, (they are a feature of MapMaker which closes on 31 March), they don't see LG edits and it'll be too late now to try and contact them. Futhermore this edit is in Australia which has no Regional Leads as MapMaker is not open there

Hi @MitchellP,

When you see the "Inside certain place" next to the Address of a Maps Place, it indicates that the Place is claimed and being managed in Google MyBusiness Dashboard.  (As the "Inside" is a feature only availabled to claimed business)

As all the address has the Pizza restaurant added at the front, it seems the "Inside" relationship is having some problems.

If I were you, I will do both below:

1.  Report this to Google using "Send Feedback"

2.  Post to Google MyBusiness forum asking for advice

Hi Sampson, here's the map link to the listing in the screenshot above https://goo.gl/maps/atY75EDA4nP2 . It says Located in: Hunter Gourmet Pizza but it's not a Claimed business

Google Trusted Photographers are encouraged to get their clients to claim their businesses via Google My Business, but it is not a requirement.  Claiming a business actually delays the entire process of adding a tour, so more often than not they do not end up claimed when a tour is added.  The presence of a tour cannot be used to assume that the business is claimed.

The pizza place does happen to be claimed, but GMB is focussed on the claiming of businesses; this is more a mapping question and belongs in this forum.

Looking at the history of the feature, I see that their used to be a polygon attached to this business.  A pizza place should never have had a polygon attached.  This means one of two things:

  • There was also a polygon for the mall, and the mall and pizza place were accidentally merged.
  • The polygon for the pizza place fooled the system into thinking it was the mall

The polygon specifically used to be across the street at the larger mall; so I would assume it's actually a bad merge.

It really does not matter which issue occurred, as even if Map Maker was available in Australia this is beyond the mapping features made available to the public.  This thus needs to be reported.

Please use "Send Feedback -> Other feedback" and enter something similar to the following:

"Hunter Gourmet Pizza, visible at https://goo.gl/r8a9Yf, is showing up as the mall name for many different businesses.  A check in Map Maker revealed that is used to have an associated polygon located across the street at the larger mall that now has indoor mapping attached to it.  It thus seems that Hunter was at one time mislocated or alternatively it was incorrectly merged with the POI that represents the mall.  In either case, the system currently thinks that this business is a shopping mall instead of a pizza restaurant, this issue needs to be resolved.  Examples of businesses that say they are within Hunter are https://goo.gl/XXXXX, https://goo.gl/XXXX and https://goo.gl/XXXXX."

Re: Bug: Shopping centre shops cannot update address

Hi everyone,

Just for clarification, the inside feature is not just a feature of claimed businesses. For example, this restaurant in Canada shows the located in message but is not claimed: https://goo.gl/maps/1Xu56i8kY2U2

Also, the Google My Business forum is designed to provide support for the business owner or their authorised representative, not Local Guides making edits to businesses.
