For the first Google Local Guides Volunteer Day 2016, unofficial Google Anuradhapura Local Guides Community organised a donation of books to the library of the Kahapathvilagama Vidyalaya in Anuradhapura district. The school is situated about 22 km from Anuradhapura, and there are nearly 75 students in the school. There were about 600 students in the school a few years back and due to limited facilities most of the children have left the school.
Although this is a school holiday, when we arrived at the school around 10 am, there were about 20 students and two teachers. They were jubilant when they saw us.
Initially, we introduced our selfs and asked them to introduce them selfs. Please see the video below. It was really nice, most of them want to become teachers, engineers and doctors.
Cahndima Ambanwala explained the importance of reading books and the QR code we pasted on the books. Then we handed over few books as a token and then asked students to have a look at books. They were jubilant, and most of them started to reading books.
There were few maps and atlases, and they were very keen on them. They were searching for their village on the maps. We could not demonstrate them the Google Maps because there was no connectivity.
A teacher and a student thanked us for donating books. Please see the video below.
Finally, they served us tea. It was a great moment and kids, and we really enjoyed it.
Thank you Google for letting us do this kind of charity work. @AradhanaB @Corrie
I would like to thank Samindaka , Chandima, Seedra , Vijai, Upul, Illankovan @IlankovanT , Roshan @RoshanA, Asanka @AsankaRubasinghe , Rajitha @RajithaP, Gamini, Sameera Wickramanayake and all others who helped us to make this event a success.

All the books carried the Anuradhapura Local Guides seal and QR Code.
