On Saturday 19 May 2018, Ivorian local guides (team225) met to organize the Meet Up Let Green Map led by Leader Yacouba KOITA.
The meeting point was scheduled in the city of Adjamé at 06H30 and the departure for 07h00.
We boarded the bus at 7:00, then we did an explanation session about the smooth running of the Meet Up. Finally, we took the road at 7h16min for the destination of Toumodi, Kpouébo, Ivory Coast
Latitude: 6.333333 | Longitude: -4.85
Arrived at 10h39min on the spot, we were greeted by the officers of Waters and Forests of the Reforestation Cell of the Departmental Direction of Water and Forests of Toumodi, who were in charge to assist us technically in the process of planting.
Then, we were transported to 1KM from the meeting point to Mr NABILISSE SELIRA JEAN's camp, where we had received instructions and a special course of planting by Lieutenant N'CHO.
The Reforestation Cell of the Departmental Water and Forests Direction of Toumodi and its partner NABILISSE Selira Jean have in target to reforest 200 hectares of land that has been devastated by bush fires. Unfortunately for lack of financial support, they have only been able to achieve 40Ha in the last two years. We have found that the challenge is very big but the means to reach it are defects.
The objective of our Meet Up was to provide support for the reforestation of 1 hectare of TEK forest on lands devastated by bush fires last year. We were able to plant only 524 plants equivalent to 1/2 Ha lack of financial means.
The choice was tek because its nurseries are cheaper; he is more resistant to bush fires and his maintenance is easy, Lieutenant N'cho said.
For reforestation several methods can be used:
The method of direct transplanting Teks regrowths. This method proves to be ineffective because of its low success rate between 10 and 20%.
The method of transplanting nurseries produced based on Teks STUMPS. This method is the most used because of its high success rate around 98%
Lieutenant N'CHO to close our session of planting process to the planting of honor dedicated to Google.
After planting, we ended up at the Kpouébo water and forest station (Canton of Toumodi waters and forests) for a snack and an interview between the brave officers of Waters and Forests and the Ivorian's local guides in order to plan and to organize further planting action on the remaining 160Ha and in other areas that have tree planting projects in sight.
I would like to thanks our photographer @Bouadi for the great job he did.
Hi5 to all the ivory coast local guides #TEAM225 and officers of Waters and Forests for their support and involvment in the succes of this Meet Up Let Map Green in TOUMODI.
