Wow, what can I say about the Lagos Arts & Culture Crawl except it was absolutely FANTASTIC!!! All the kudos go to all the Lagos Local Guides who showed at the different venues to soak in all the fun, glitz, glamour and history of Lagos and Nigeria.
The Lagos Arts & Culture Crawl in summary was aimed at visiting 4 locations, across 3 different cities in Lagos, with 2 outcomes in mind (i.e. getting a better appreciation of our State and Nation's ARTS & CULTURAL history) all the fun in 1 day.
We kicked off the crawl at the Kalakuta Republic Museum in Ikeja, which was home to the late afrobeat legend, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti. His home was converted to a museum in 2012, which now houses memorabilia of Fela's era. Pretty much all the Local Guides who came to the museum were visiting for the first time and the atmosphere was charged with excitement as we kept clicking away and phones were quickly running out of power. We spent about an hour or so here and then drove probably about 25-30 kilometers to reach the second venue of the crawl, Freedom Park in Lagos Island.
Many of us had never being here and to think such a place existed smack in the middle of the "hustle & bustle" of Lagos, it was refreshing and an eye opener. We had a few Local Guides join us at this venue who hadn't been to the Kalakuta Museum, so our numbers grew. We were on a self guided tour of the Freedom Park taking in some of the history of Lagos State. We took some time going round and taking in the views from our "phone lenses" and at the end, we took a less than 7 minutes drive to the National Museum, Onikan.
Again, many of us hadn't visited the National Museum in such a long time and we were saddened at the state of the museum, a place that was meant to represent the repository of our country's national history. Despite the state of the museum, all of us still managed to thoroughly enjoy ourselves, as it was an opportunity to reacquaint ourselves with our country's past. The highlight of the visit/guided tour at the museum was viewing the presidential limo in which the late General Murtala Mohammed was assassinated, only after ruling Nigeria for six months at the helm of Government. On our way out we headed to the final stop of the day, little did we know that Nike Arts Gallery was the "crown jewel" of the Lagos Arts & Culture Crawl, as, yet again, mostly all of us had never being to the gallery, even after living in Lagos for so long.
Nike Arts Gallery's founder, Chief (Mrs.) Nike Okundaye, surprisingly, was at the entrance to welcome us with her dance troupe. We all couldn't resist the rhythms of the drums and proceeded to show off our dancing skills. Except that we were no match for @SanyaOdare who obviously had been taken over by the spirits of our ancestors as he moved and swayed like the music was made for him. Our hostess, Chief (Mrs.) Nike Okundaye is such an amazing woman and what she has done for the Nigerian arts and cultural scene cannot be quantified. As the Local Guides were awe struck, we kept noticing foreign nationals from all over the world kept trooping in and out of the gallery. The best way to describe our experience to Nike Arts Gallery is to encourage everyone to go visit the place. Words would not be able to capture the essence of the experience of being there for yourself, especially for those who truly appreciate arts.
Here's a link to a shared album with more photos from the crawl, https://goo.gl/photos/3RVoWokJTcvTexrEA.
In ending this post/recap, I would like to give a BIG SHOUT to @SanyaOdare, @EmekaUlor, @pwanaduku, @BukolaAjayi, @Sagir, @AustinCO, @ErnestI, other local guides (whose IDs I can't seem to tag here) and all the friends (and soon to be Local Guides) for making the Lagos Arts & Culture Crawl such a huge success.

Initially, I thought being a Local Guide amounts to "doing Google a favour" but having hosted meet-ups such as Lagos Food Crawl, Lagos With Nature and now being part of Lagos Arts & Culture Crawl; all I can say right now is THANK YOU GOOGLE for the Local Guides programme through which I'm getting to know my community, city and nation better than I've ever known before! I'd like to also thank @TraciC, @GusMoreira, @HelloJess, @LuisRG @iyudhi and the entire Local Guides Connect Team for the work they do to make all 268,937+ Local Guides interact with one another - like one big family.
Prior to the d-day, the thought of visiting 4 locations, across 3 different cities in Lagos in just one day sounded like "biting more than one can chew". However, it eventually turned out to be the most fun-filled meet-up I've ever attended. Many thanks to @Sayo for making the Lagos Arts & Culture Crawl happen! @U-royFelixA @HelloSamsonR, @OSAMA, @KarenVChin, can you imagine a convergence of 8 Local Guides clicking their cams to capture the hidden beauty of Arts & Culture in Lagos Nigeria?
Here are few pictures but please feel free to feed your eyes on the whole photo album here.
