As a moderator I can't count the number of times when angry person X has approached me about being banned either on socials via DM or here on Connect via a "friend"'s account (usually as well disguised as the 10 year olds note to the P.E. teacher - Dear Sir Johnny can't to sport today signed My Mum). Generally people aren't warned when they behave poorly and step outside the Local Guides Rules, Maps Content Policy or other guidelines.
Being suspended if you're a continual rule breaker is fair. But sometimes it happens because people just don't know they are doing something bad like sharing selfies, sharing the same photo of an atm to 100 atms, etc.
I wonder if perhaps a mechanism could be built into the app. For the lesser evils, when something bad is found (by algorithm or human) a message could go to the person and give them the specific violation item(s) and give them some time to correct them before the suspension comes into effect. They then get to make a choice, remove the offending items or suffer the consequences. An in app toast is likely better than an email and more likely to be seen.
Note that for the major evils like hijacking a Maps entry or spamming (Packers and Movers anyone?) they just go right away like they do now.
