automated warning before being suspended from Local Guides

As a moderator I can't count the number of times when angry person X has approached me about being banned either on socials via DM or here on Connect via a "friend"'s account (usually as well disguised as the 10 year olds note to the P.E. teacher - Dear Sir Johnny can't to sport today signed My Mum). Generally people aren't warned when they behave poorly and step outside the Local Guides Rules, Maps Content Policy or other guidelines.

Being suspended if you're a continual rule breaker is fair. But sometimes it happens because people just don't know they are doing something bad like sharing selfies, sharing the same photo of an atm to 100 atms, etc.

I wonder if perhaps a mechanism could be built into the app. For the lesser evils, when something bad is found (by algorithm or human) a message could go to the person and give them the specific violation item(s) and give them some time to correct them before the suspension comes into effect. They then get to make a choice, remove the offending items or suffer the consequences. An in app toast is likely better than an email and more likely to be seen.

Note that for the major evils like hijacking a Maps entry or spamming (Packers and Movers anyone?) they just go right away like they do now.

Hi @PaulPavlinovich I would like to see a mechanism like that, just for a hands up before someone is kicked out. Especially if it happened by mistake to those who are always on the line following the rules. It is really painful, and I am sure there are those who does not deserve this, but only if it can be applied to the trusted local guides.

Hi @PaulPavlinovich

Sure, that would be a helpful feature.

If somebody gets an example of what wrongdoing was there in the contribution, that will prevent similar such incidences in future.

As a non-moderator, I can count the times, and it's about 10.

It's enough that I live in fear of accidentally breaking a rule myself.

To be frank, Google's rules are extremely vague...and probably because of lawyers they're not going to get more specific any time soon.

So, I really like this idea.

I'm in tandem with your suggestion @PaulPavlinovich.

Thanks for sharing...

Thanks @JanVanHaver for recommending this idea in your podcast!

Warning shots in any case are always welcome.  The current "Shoot first, ask never" policy seems harsh especially for guides who have been helping Maps for years.

Spammers are a plague everywhere, but there must be a way for Google to still be give a warning and a second chance to someone making a mistake (maybe for the wrong motives, but sometimes just by ignorance).

@PaulPavlinovich True. No one should be banned for a minor mistake. I hope the team will consider and this will be implemented.

@PaulPavlinovich, I heard about your idea on the Podcast by @JanVanHaver.  I hereby second your idea. Alternatively it could be a motivational service that you need to actively select by yourself. A button you could click here on LGC to check the quality of your efforts. And where you can get detailed feedback on what ought to be improved in hindsight or in future contributions. Or it could simply be an element added to your personal Badge-overview page.
