Option to mark as a temporarily closed

As I know, currently, we do not have an option to mark places as temporally closed due to various reasons. Such as renovation/fire broke/storm/robbing/etc. Recently one of my friend had this issue when she was searching shopping complex on google map that situated in highly residential area and not functioning these days. As she mentioned that shop was appeared as open as usual. However, due to a fire broke it was burnt totally and not functioning(Cool Planet,770 Pannipitiya Road, PELAWATTA, Battaramulla 10120, Sri Lanka). I was wonder when she told that and I checked my self about that on google Map. Because this area is highly commercial and having lot of local guides around this area. Still we can see it as open on google map and no one commented on that still.

Nevertheless, it is not closed permanently as they mentioned that they are restoring soon for give better service on a poster/banner. That mean it closed for temporarily. Then I checked to edit this as a temporarily closed one. Unfortunately, I was unable to find a way to do. Could someone explain how to do it or if this function is not available, I would like to suggest on make available this option to google map. Other thing is if this option is already available, I think it is better if google map can show this function like ‘temporarily closed’ as special icon and possible to mark on that type of places.

o I believe that the official mapping rule is that if a place is temporarily closed for more than 2 weeks that is should be marked as "permanently closed". This makes no sense.

Most contributors would feel uncomfortable to close a place "permanently" when it is only closed for, let's say,  a couple of months due to renovations. Yet, by not reporting these kinds of closures people end up in front of closed doors.

It has happened to me more than once that I traveled to a city to visit a particular tourist attraction to find it temporarily closed yet open on Maps. I have since learned that checking the reviews for people writing about a place being temporarily closed may prevent you from these time-wasting experiences. But people are unlikely to write a review where they state that a certain restaurant is closed for a month because they have a vacation break. Still, this happens a lot to me where I live. 

To be able to set a period for a temporary closure of a POI is totally needed on Maps!

P.S. Accepting us to change the opening hours so it reflects that a place is closed all days of the week, would be a great alternative to inform people.

Hi @Nishi_N, thanks for this idea! We’ve shared it with the team and while we can’t pursue it right now, we may consider it in the future.

Currently, marking as currently closed is an option for Google My Buisiness accounts to manage their own schedules. You can read more about in How do I set a location to temporarily closed

Couple weeks ago when I was about to went through this route to get something at the convenience store nearby, it turned out this road (red line) was temporary closed due to a personal occasion which later I found out it's a wedding. So I had to take longer route around (green line) which took more times. Such things happen a lot in Indonesia, let alone for wedding and grief reasons. Since a lot of people been actively using Google Maps now, I'm wondering if Google Maps already have/want to add sort of live report feature that we as Local Guide can use to inform people if certain road (especially for roads people always pass by/everyday commute) is temporarily closed for such reasons or some emergencies, so they can immediately get a pop-up notification for other fastest accessible routes. I think it's really helpful and saves people's time.

Hi @SupriantoWila Maps has a sister application called Waze where you can report temporary closures and this does flow through to Maps. I've not seen any permanent complimentary features in Maps itself yet but I've seen rumours of it published on various Android and computing forums. Google love their experiments :).

-Hay largos periodos en que los negocios o servicios están cerrados (mas de un mes).

Añadir una opción al horario que permita indicar a los usuarios de google maps que están en periodo de "Fuera de temporada".

O bien que se pueda indicar: que meses no están abiertos o todo lo contrario: que meses están cerrados.

Thank you for sharing, but similar idea had been suggested before and I am merging it - Option to mark as a temporarily closed.
