Street View Trusted Photographer

For example, the new Samsung gear 360 2017 edition operatrs with a 8 MP rrsolution (15 MP the first version of the 360). Does that mean those pics doesn't meet the requirements for approved pics to get the Trusted street view photographer badge? Even though the quality of the pictures dhould be improved?

Re: Street View Trusted Photographer

Hi @ThomasH

According to the specs on the Gear 360 site, the new camera has a 15 Mp resolution (the old one has a 30 Mp resolution however). 15 Mp is "acceptable" by Google SV - however admittedly a step back. I was hoping that the new camera would have even higher resolution than the old one.

Re: Street View Trusted Photographer

Hello. Sorry i don't have an answer for your question. I think best answer would be from someone uploading an spherical photo to google street view with that photo machine (sorry for my english, i don't find correct words right now) and confirm or not that the 360 photo appears approved by Google Street View...

---> Said that, info is at https://www.google.com/streetview/privacy/#publishing-acceptance-criteria  where they say there are different conditions to approve a photography. Remember that to get the badge you need to have 50 approved spherical photos (hope i'm not wrong on minimum number required). And they say "Los requisitos exactos pueden variar según el tipo de foto y el punto de subida. Por ejemplo, para las fotografías esféricas se deben usar al menos 14 megapíxeles (con una resolución mínima de 5300 por 2650 píxeles)" wich means that the sphericl photo must be 14+ megapixels and have at least a resolution of 5300x2650 px.

--->http://www.samsung.com/global/galaxy/gear-360/

At the end of the page they say camera still - up to 15 MB (5472x2736) so i think we are still into range and photos at maximun resolution of 15 MBs should be approved.

---Should be confirmed by someone with that camera or just uploading a photo from store 🙂 if it was possible 🙂 bye. Hope you get more answers and more specific than mine 😉 -edit: moderator already answered.

-- also check ricoh theta S, they say for their machine 2 lens = 2 x 12 Mp = 14 MP total. No idea how they do the maths but it's good to know there is a difference between MP on a lens and total MP on finished spherical photography.

- btw i bought a generic cheap 360 photo machine with only one lens and obviously i did not managed to upload photos to google street view. I still have to solve gps data injection and other unknown misteries. That machine is on a desk quite forever... Bla bla bla i ended uploading with a smartphone with giroscope. Offtopic i know. Bye 😉
