I think like you. You can get free storage from other companies for a year as well. This gift is not an added value. I am less motivated to contribute after knowing it.

Yes, it appears to have been a temporary thing even when it was live. So, any of us newer Guides missed the boat on this one.

Curious about that as well. 

A chance to again earn free space? Do so much and keep your free storage... I love that I have 1tb of free storage, it is the reason I signed up for Local Guides.
