Why was my Connect post marked as spam?

In order to protect our Local Guides community, we use filters to comb through content and look for anything that shouldn’t be on Connect. This can sometimes lead to posts being sent for spam review. The reason will vary from situation to situation, so here are a few things to consider before posting.

  • Automatic spam filters are sensitive to help ensure all content adheres to the Local Guides program rules. Because of this, multiple edits can trigger a quarantine until a moderator manually releases the post. Be sure to preview your submission before hitting “post.”

  • Promoting a business will lead to your post being marked as spam. Please do not participate in the Local Guides program — and Connect — on behalf of a business. This includes linking to your business or adding your phone number and email to posts. In addition to your posts being marked as spam, your account may be removed from the Local Guides program. Instead, head over to Google My Business and get started on growing your company’s reach with this free service.

  • Avoid duplicate posts; it’ll only tie up your submissions from getting posted.

  • Keep content original; the best posts share your own experiences. If you’d like to include something relevant to the conversation from another website or Local Guide, keep it short (don’t copy whole articles or posts) and be sure to properly credit and link back to the source.

  • Remember to adhere to the Local Guides core values at all times. We’re a caring, informative, and adventurous bunch — let’s keep it that way.

  • Protect your own privacy and that of your fellow Local Guides. Utilize the Connect private messaging system and keep your information safe.

If ever you feel your post was incorrectly marked as spam, tag a moderator and reference the post; we’ll be here to help! Don’t worry, the URL for your post will stay the same.

Thank you for your understanding and for sharing great posts!
