Local Guides submit edits on Google Maps to ensure their communities are accurately represented. After you add an edit to Google Maps, it’s reviewed by either local operators, an automated system, or both to ensure the information is accurate and follows our guidelines.

If your edit is Pending, that means we’re still reviewing it. We may need additional information to verify that your edit is accurate. It may take some time for us to gather that information and for fellow Local Guides to use the Check the facts feature on Google Maps to confirm the information you shared is correct.

If your edit is Not Applied, that means we were unable to confidently verify the information you shared at this time.

We hope this doesn’t discourage you from being an active Local Guide. We appreciate all of your efforts to help make the world easier to navigate for millions of people around the world.

Hello fellow sufferers,

I don't know why we bother anymore, as it is evident that there isn't any solution to our grievances. I have no complaints with the moderators, they are doing their job, in fact their presence is frequent here, explaining about political correct posting, algorithms, copyright laws, satellites etc..

What I understand as a user is that Google's checking system, be it AI or human isn't reliable.

Latest instance that happened to me: a month ago I travelled to an European capital and stayed in a well known chain hotel. When home, I tried to upload my photos and discovered that the place was branded 'permanently closed'. Not only that, but the name of the hotel had disappeared (it just said  vaguely 'hotel'), the coordinates have changed,  i.e  the location was shown in the map in a small island in the middle of nowhere, address and number absent, post code wrong. Strangely, the city and the country were correctly mentioned!
Silly me, I go out of my way to send all the evidence I could gather, reviews with current date from other travel sites, links to the booking site of the hotel, screenshot of the map with the wrong coordinates, as opposed to the actual city location coordinates (we are talking here about thousand km divergence).

Google maps reaction? You guessed it: my edit was immediately and unceremoniously rejected. The cherry on top of the cake: tonight while browsing I found a new entry, same hotel, same name but with correct data.

Which proves in my opinion that the acception or rejection of an edit (in this case someone informed Google that the same place is closed and another that it is open 😜) depends partly on circumstances or luck.

So chill up people and stop losing sleep on it!

@curreir thanks for talking about your hotel mapping experience - weird edge cases like that are likely to be bad data. For a case like that one I would send feedback via the Maps App including a link to the problem place. There is a big feedback queue, but in time this should result in a meaningful update that will stick.

@PaulPavlinovichthank you for answering to my post. Regarding your advice to send the error to the feedback, I am sorry, but I have to say that I have lost my trust to Google.

Many times in the past I applied to feedback, either seeking solutions for Google related issues or pointing out errors like this.

Never have received help or at least acknowledgement that they have read my post.

I gave up on Google. I continue to write reviews cause I like it, but I am resigned to the fact that I cannot do anything, if something goes wrong. And it does again and again... Here is today's case:

The place was created, address and hours approved. Changes published. Today? Hours disappeared.  Happens all the time and to correct it one needs repeated complaints and as much as 6 months waiting time.

I just don't bother anymore...

@curreir I'm sorry that you feel that way mate. Feedback via the App is generally a one way chanel. Googlers will only contact you if they need more information. Changes won't always happen based on feedback, there are 75,000,000+ Local Guides so the team have to take the different views of many people into account before they make changes.

Hours are processed seperately to the entry. They will reappear if they can be verified.

For your other issues feel free to PM me links to the place and I will take a look.

Hey all

Mikey here @Lunacare Cymru again, I noticed a lot of people having this issue still, there is no solid way to fix this issue it is very well known that certain markers are not being added or locations duplicating although I cannot guarantee this will work I want to share my basic workflow for listings that ultimately reduce problems when listing / long pending / Not Applied.

1~ If a previously owned business was at the address MAKE SURE YOU REMOVE THIS LISTING OR MARK AS CLOSED! If you don't do this first and in some cases wait 48 hours then you can expect to have issues arise.

2~ Manually drop the marker onto maps to add the location slightly placing it away from the original business, being sure to only add the details about the business name and general details

3~ Check original post has been marked as closed and the new post has been applied (9/10 times there should be no issues with this method) Add A FloorPlan Now If Doing so

4~ Upload any photos or 360 works

5~ Create Virtual Tour To Floor Plan (Optional)

6~ Once all is applied to move the marker over to the original point / Duplications will often be corrected by google maps.

KEY TIPS: Patience is vital always give 2 days for something to be applied, If at first, it doesn't work try try try again!

Hi, I've noticed an error on Google Maps near my home. How do I go about reporting this, and getting it updated?

A road that had been closed temporarily for bridge rebuild several years ago is still shown as closed (a red road sign with white dash) on the mobile version when I drive on that route, even though it's actually been open for the last 3 years or so.

But non-local users might not know it's available, and Google Maps will not route any trips using that perfectly good public road.

The sign only shows up when I'm actually driving there, but not when I pan to it while not near there. And I don't see it on the web version.

Very strange.

I've tried looking into the Map Maker forum, but it shows private, and that I'm not a member.

rodvela, I don't see problem-solving of the issues preventing your edits from publishing taking place in this post/thread, as in my view this is a problem EXPLANATION post where the same issues get EXPLAINED over-and-over-and-over again, however, the issues themselves remain unsolved.

The title of this post is: Why is my edit status "Pending or not Applied"?

In my view, it ought to be:  What do the edit status designations "Pending or not Applied" mean?

In my view, users are coming to this post to find out WHY their edit(s) weren't published.  I suspect they already have a pretty good idea of WHAT the status designations mean -- albeit providing clear definitions is valuable.

To SOLVE the issue(s) of why a particular edit wasn't applied requires troubleshooting.  It may require a good deal of information as to what the business (or feature) is, what the CORRECT name is; where the feature is located (latitude and longitude), what type of business (or feature) it is; what the possible categories are; perhaps some verification of the address where it is located (i.e. is the address the actual (situs) address or is it a postal address); what (added) information is obtained when one does a Google search for the listing/feature (SERPs)?  If there are other issues that affect the edit such as duplicates, those (likely) need to be fixed first. One needs to submit an edit that contains ZERO guess-work -- where there was absolutely no guessing or assumptions made and/or included about ANY part of the edit information.

ALL of that would be done in a separate thread, not mixed in with hundreds of other issues, so a user can try to make an edit, and if that doesn't work they can easily post back to the thread and receive additional suggestions.  Quoting (or threading) has been disabled in this forum -- and it can take as long to find the original posts to try to make sense of the issue as it might to solve the issue in the first place.

I don't see problem-solving happening in this post.  What I do see are more and more posts being added to this post with many being added by moderators -- with no end in sight.  In my view, this thread is ineffective, out-of-control, and provides a disservice to the users.

'jus my cent-cent worth.

Map Maker has been closed for quite some time now.  It's too bad that it continues to show in the list of forums.  I'll pass that along and try to get it removed.

As @sonnyNg mentioned, the Google Maps and Earth Help Forum is the 'replacement' for that.

Hello CMaiorano,

I can't tell (for sure) from the translation if your issue/problem is (1) you added the church OR (2) you added photos to an existing church OR (3) you added both the church and the photos.  Please advise.

(4) If you added the church when you do a Google search for that "church name" I imagine you get many, many results.  Are any of the names different than the name you gave the church?  (5) Are there any "newer" churches in the area that have the same name as the church you were trying to add?  -- it appears that this church is in a (partial) state of ruins, and often a new/different church will be named or renamed with the name of the "old" church which can present challenges with naming.

(6) Can you provide the latitude and longitude of the church location you are trying to add, along with the name and address you used and the category?

"But it is for weeks that the change is in the state "not applied", does anyone know why or can help me."

You may or may not already know this, once the status is "Not Applied" that status will not change, and that edit is "finished".  You will need to submit a new edit.

If this were my edit I would not re-submit the photographs at this time but would wait until the edit is approved.  I know different folks have different views on that approach ... (7) do the photographs you submitted to the "not applied" edit show up under "Your Contributions - Photos"?

Thank you.

Sorry I initially missed this question.  Duplicates (edits) are NOT displayed under "Your Contributions" -- I don't know why (although I could guess).  However, when the duplicate edit is cleared (fixed) you will receive another email letting you know that.  As an aside, I created an email filter for duplicate edits so I can easily find and track them -- some take a l-o-n-g time to get fixed 😞

Your contributions shows edits that you have made.  Feedback, though, is not just for making edits.  Depending on the options you choose you are either making an edit, requesting that a Googler make an edit, or you're providing an opinion about Maps.  Duplicate markings are normally requests for a Googler to figure it out and fix it.

"Hallo, i am first added the little church and yesterday wen i have make this question have added the photos."

Hello CMaiorano,

My understanding from your reply is that you added the church, which was not applied, and then yesterday you uploaded photos to a church that does not exist on Maps.  (A) What feature (building, etc.) did you upload the photos to?  Asked differently, what steps did you go through to add the photos?

"I have added latidude and longitude that are  43°57'5.76"N,  10°22'58.17"E."

Thank you.

"In this location isn't any cell phone coverage, isn't streets but only footpaths and i'm quite sure that this little churc is "unknown" to Google...but it's here!"

FYI, whether or not there is cell phone coverage is totally irrelevant to adding a feature to Maps. I do know there is a school of thought that adding a feature via a mobile device when one is physically at the location "helps" in getting the edit approved, however, the absence of being at the location is, in my experience insignificant.  (B) What street address, if any, did you use for the church?

FWIW, I would bet you a doughnut that Google does, in fact, know the "church" is there ; )

I am unable to provide any further suggestions until you choose to answer questions #4, 5, and 7 that I took the time and energy to write out in the post, as well as #A & B in this post.

I've been trying to add a family cemetery, four times already, and keep getting "NOT APPLIED." You can see two of the headstones in the satellite view.

Name: Penix Cemetery

Location: Coordinates 37.825743, -82.691872

What's odd is that when I added the first cemetery that is nearby (Walters Cemetery, coordinates 37.82533, -82.692106), the cemetery was immediately added. I tried to post make a new posting, but the New Message button is no longer present or has been moved. Also tried to follow the instructions below, but Map Makers Help Forum is a closed group. Several postings direct to a link, but when clicked it takes me to this thread. I'm not sure what to do here. Can someone help?

"What's odd is that when I added the first cemetery that is nearby (Walters Cemetery, coordinates 37.82533, -82.692106), the cemetery was immediately added"

(1) How long ago did you add Walters Cemetery?  I'm guessing pretty recently as it doesn't show (yet) in search.

(2) Please post a link to Walters Cemetery.

(3) What address did you use for Penix Cemetery?  Please don't make any more attempts to add it at this time.

(4)  On a related note is "Rught Fk Greasy Creek Rd" the correct spelling for this road, or should it be "Right Fork Greasy Creek Road"?

Thank you.

Level 5

Hi @MapWrangler. Thanks for the reply!

Per your request:

  1. Walters Cemetery was added at about 7:45 pm EST.
  2. https://goo.gl/maps/73vu3txmFnx
  3. Penix Cemetery - I used the address of Johnson County, Kentucky (I think?) There isn't an exact address for the cemetery, but I do have the exact coordinates (37.825743, -82.691872).
  4. The road is mispelled. Your suggestion of "Right Fork Greasy Creek Road" is correct.

Thanks.

Level 10

Hi @jessebh2003,

Well, I'm somewhat amazed that your add/edit for Walters Cemetery was accepted with (apparently) just an address of "Kentucky".  Then again, I like to be amazed!  ; )

(1) So, the first thing I would suggest is to improve the address of Walters Cemetery, by adding "Rught Fk Greasy Creek Rd, Boons Camp, Kentucky" to the address line.  Do NOT click on the prompted address which will appear in the edit box for if you do the marker will move and you will have to readjust the map to get the marker back to where you want it.  Simply paste in the address (above) -- with the incorrect spelling -- and totally ignore the prompted address, and click on "Send".  BTW, I understand neither cemetery has an exact address with a street number, but they are close enough to the road to use the road name.

(2) The next thing I would do is correct the name of that road segment. Do not make any abbreviations in the name, "Right Fork Greasy Creek Road".  Google may display abbreviations on the map, but one should never abbreviate anything one enters on the map.  If you need an assist in making the road name correction, just post back and I can point you to help guides.

(3) While Walters Cemetery is on the map, it can take 24-48 hours for it to index and update across all product lines, including Search and Google Earth.  In some cases, it can take as long as a week. As you will have added the improved street address for Walters Cemetery please wait until the name and full (improved) address appears in both Google Maps (maps search -- not using a link) and Google Search before adding Penix Cemetery.*  Just "so you know", theoretically one could add the second cemetery moments after adding the first -- there isn't some magic time period one has to wait, but in this instance there are circumstances that may be in play such that the algorithm would automatically deny the addition of the second cemetery:  (A) The cemeteries are relatively close together, (B) Walters cemetery has an incomplete address, (C) It sounds like you may have entered a different address for Penix Cemetery then you did for Walters (which also then loops back to "A" ; )  (D) Your trust level for adding multiple cemeteries may not be high enough yet to make the additional edit, (E) There is a road with an incorrect name next to both cemeteries (Google knows it's wrong [bad data] -- it's just waiting for someone to come along and fix it ; )  (F) Everything else I don't know about  ; )

(4) When you do add Penix Cemetery do use the address of "Right Fork Greasy Creek Road, Boons Camp, Kentucky".  *You probably ought to wait for the road name correction to be approved (and indexed) before trying to add Penix Cemetery.  When you add Penix Cemetery, should it be marked as Not Applied, please do not try to add it again, but post back here for suggestions.

Level 5

@MapWrangler, thank you so much for the guidance and suggestions. I'll work on all of that to get it fixed.

I greatly appreciate the help!!!

Level 10

@jessebh2003,

I just happened to notice there are segments of Right Fork Greasy Creek Road that are correctly spelled -- and seem to share the name with Greasy Creek Road.  As you are (I presume) local you likely know all that ; )  -- 'jus wanted to send you a heads-up so that only the incorrect segments are corrected  (unless of course Right Fork Greasy Creek Road ought not to be sharing the name with Greasy Creek Road ; )

Arco de las Monjas (Arch of the Nuns)Arco de las Monjas (Arch of the Nuns)The Arch of the Nuns is one of the most famous and photographed sights in Vejer where I have a home. I’ve submitted it as a tourist attraction to Google Maps several times with different web links etc but it is always “Not Applied”. Any suggestions for how I can get this fixed? Part of the problem may be the short street has no name on Google Maps. There does not seem to be any way to contact Google Maps moderators to make a case for a new feature or edit of existing. Any advice appreciated.

Level 10

@Dadhairday based on my experience only I would consider loading it as a "scenic point" and then changing it to tourist attraction from there if approved.

The name looks unusual and have had similar auto rejections in the past such as when Snow Gum Park would be rejected straight away but Snowgum Park would work and allow later correction, I had evidence of correct name.

I would not bother with the links in this case to rule them out as the issue but add them in when approved.

Good luck.

Apparently, my last post was removed from this forum, along with the 3 preceding posts.  If so, why, and why was there no advice or notification given to me?  Where is Local Guide @Dadhairday's post located now?

Thank you.

The post, modified with links to the original references appears below.

Hello @VasT (and @AlexaAC),

You wrote, in reply to a post from @Dadhairday regarding the process and length of time it takes to have inappropriate (spam) photos removed:

"Please, have in mind edits on Google Maps take some time to get approved. You can Check the status of your edits. Learn more about how edits are reviewed and approved in this post Why is my edit status Pending or Not Applied?."

Photos that are flagged by a user/Local Guide do not appear in "Your Contributions" and the subject of this forum post wrt "Why is my edit status Pending or Not Applied?" doesn't apply.  There is no feedback mechanism available to the Local Guide regarding their request to have a photo removed -- all they can do is repeatedly check to see if the photo(s) are still there and, if so, repeatedly flag the photo.  BTW, Google My Business has a far more active process in place for removal of photos at the request of the business owner.

Hello @GeorgesHR,

Thank you for your (speedy) reply.

>> Your post was not removed. Google Moderators do not remove posts.

This has been my understanding ... which is why I was surprised to find all traces of the 4 posts gone.

>> Please allow the Google Moderators some time.
Of course, I am happy to do so.

Thank you again.

Hi,

I added a new place on Google Maps on Nov-28 and the status is still pending review after 6 days.

It is a legitimate business and I have done that together with the business manager. I've entered all details, phone, web, location, opening hours etc

Is there a way to speed up this process? How long it takes normally?
