We know Local Guides love to be helpful and provide information in any way they can. One way that you can help other users on Google Maps especially at this time is to take pictures of signs posted on business doors and windows. Doing so can help people understand health and safety precautions businesses have put in place.
Read on for some tips and things to keep in mind when shooting storefront photography.
Show the entire building
In order to be most helpful, photos should clearly show the business and its surroundings. Photos of storefronts and signs posted on windows or doors are the most useful. One important thing to keep in mind is to make sure that the business name is displayed fully and not cut off at all in your photo.
Evaluate if anything has changed
If you see that the business is boarded up, recently opened back up, or has otherwise changed from how it used to look on the outside, take additional photos to capture what’s new about the current state of the storefront.
Capture important information
You can also take closer images of the door or front windows to showcase any important documents that might be posted. Many businesses are using these spaces to post what health and safety precautions they have put in place. Taking photos of these signs for Google Maps can help others who need this information.
Slow down for the photo
Be sure to take photos when you’re not in motion. It may be tempting to snap photos from a vehicle or while on the move, but the details that matter most (like signage) often get lost when photos are taken from any point of view other than standing outside the business.
