Why is my edit status “Pending” or “Not Applied”?

Local Guides submit edits on Google Maps to ensure their communities are accurately represented. After you add an edit to Google Maps, it’s reviewed by either local operators, an automated system, or both to ensure the information is accurate and follows our guidelines.

If your edit is Pending, that means we’re still reviewing it. We may need additional information to verify that your edit is accurate. It may take some time for us to gather that information and for fellow Local Guides to use the Check the facts feature on Google Maps to confirm the information you shared is correct.

If your edit is Not Applied, that means we were unable to confidently verify the information you shared at this time.

We hope this doesn’t discourage you from being an active Local Guide. We appreciate all of your efforts to help make the world easier to navigate for millions of people around the world.

 I have still having problem

My 30 edits are not applied.

So what to do?

Level 7

Buenos días.

Últimamente he estado explorando nuevos sitios y agregandolos  a Google maps. Soy local guide nivel 7.

Level 9

This solution is automatically installed for all my edits. Edits are correct. This is very sad.

Hey, google, most of your local experts are honest and decent people. But you apply a lot of comic edits and reject a lot of real honest ones. This is very bad. This whole program was built on trust. That is why it is so effective and numerous. There will be no trust - there will be only plants and factories that managers register. I can't add a wonderful local museum for the 2nd day in a row. Sorry for bad English.

@DeniGu I am not able to add or edit a single place since from last 4 months. Is there any solution or I will keep quite. I am sending the location link to my fellow LG friends, they are adding it on behalf of me. I am travelling to many destinations next month, need the the edit and map addition tool ready during that time. Kindly do the needful.

Something is faulty in point count. One day I get minute by minute update, other I don't move in points for days.

One day some edits get approved, other day similar changes don't.

I get rejection note - but edit is changed, I get approval note edit is rejected!?!

Please re-check your edit approvals, point count system and algorithms!

I'm just sorry I failed to capture my points at 73210 this morning.

I was positively encouraged that it moved from 73150 from yesterday!

Just seconds later I opened a link within an e-mail to view approved edit and points were back to 73150!?!

Points are still at 73150, though I made 10 approved edits since (20+ pending, 10 not approved though they were simple (Capitalization correction, descriptor removal ("ATM" deletion from an object named "This bank ATM")) not counting answers etc...

Same confusion happens with a number of approved edits!

I got acknowledgment mail from Google that, among others, says I made 4 new roads in 2018 - but my total count is 3 (Though I made hundreds of roads as an RL)!

BTW I got a dozen of road approval emails just last few weeks even more denials - but changes were applied!

That, and my "Where's Waldo"  badge is missing!

i have read several pages of this huge thread.  Please correct me if i am wrong but from what i have seen, there is no solution to the forever "pending", and "not applied" issue.  Many people have the same issue and it has been prevalent for a long time with no headway on a solution.  i did not see if another local guide could approve the one that is pending.  is that possible?

this would not fix the not applied (when it should have been) but it would help.

my opinion, Local guides level 6+ should have their edits approved more frequently.  we spend alot of time adding to this community.

Im trying to add Bridge on google map but it doesnot get approval even after many attempt by me .Does anyone tell me why it doesnot get approval ?

I have had a few instances in which a place creation changed to "not applied" after a day or two, but when it turns to not applied almost instantly, then I am sure it has to be some ML rule that went bad and Google Maps team is not bothered to troubleshoot or don't know how to fix it. I am trying to add a local Clinic with full details (picture of the clinic, picture showing hours and phone number), and yet I can't succeed after 5 attempts. I even tried different pictures and different categories (Physician and Clinic) and everytime it instantly got rejected.

Level 9
Hi, @Trkatel, maybe a bridge it's a serious item to add, apart from the place and his name has to guarantee to cross it when other people look for it or that route is suggested.

Hello @DarthJayDub

"i have read several pages of this huge thread.  Please correct me if i am wrong but from what i have seen, there is no solution to the forever "pending", and "not applied" issue.  Many people have the same issue and it has been prevalent for a long time with no headway on a solution."

You are correct.  IMNHO, this is not a solution-based forum/thread, rather it is a dumping ground for any post asking a question about why edits weren't approved.  In my view, users want to know how to fix the edits such that they are approved.

"i did not see if another local guide could approve the one that is pending.  is that possible?"

The answer is, I think, "maybe".  If another local guide has a significantly high trust score relative to the kind of particular pending edit, then the bot may approve the pending edit based on that.  Otherwise, AFAIK, it may take more than one local guide verification to have an edit approved, albeit every local guide response to a pending edit will assist in verification -- but I hasten to add I have no knowledge of how the bot algorithms work : )  ... so this is just OPINION on my part.

"my opinion, Local guides level 6+ should have their edits approved more frequently.  we spend alot of time adding to this community."

DarthJayDub, there is no relationship between the Local Guide Level and the so-called trust score that a user gains over time by making edits.  Keep in mind that there are many ways to achieve, say level 6 or 10. Someone can do just reviews, or only upload photos, and they'll be able to reach level 10.  I've seen more than one local guide who INMHO gamed the system by clicking on 100,000 "ratings" -- for places the guide had never been.

Local Guide Levels are a "benchmark" of users contributions.  Clicking on thousands of ratings doesn't mean they're an expert in editing Maps.  Making thousands of edits in maps ... well, that can help  ; )

Level 10

 @MapWrangler,

In the "Check The Facts" section. SOME Edits appear for approval. But not many. This is supposed to be the venue for Guides to approve other's additions.

Level 10

Hello @BarbaraTours,

While not specifically addressing your question, I do want to highlight what IMNHO is a/the significant "missing link" that Google doesn't *get* -- and accordingly doesn't reflect in their many non-answers in this and other threads. You have elegantly (and kindly) hit the nail on the head!

"Our inner Master Fact Finders want to be rightfully acknowledged already(!!!)."

Whether the issue is having points posted to a users account, or in approving an edit that a user has researched and knows is correct, part of the human condition is that (inner) feeling of wanting to be acknowledged for "being right".  Indeed, since the beginning of time millions and millions of people have fought and died for their belief that "they were right".  This awareness is not something to be discarded or ignored when answering users questions -- about whatever the issue is they have raised -- as to do so will, IMNHO often cause the answer to the users question to miss the mark.  Consistently missing the mark will, I'm afraid, cause users to seek this subtle but essential satisfaction elsewhere.

Level 10

Hi @BarbaraTours,

"Who are the "local operators" checking our contributed suggestions? In smaller communities, who are these people and what is their process? In other words... Who could be more credible than an actual, real Level 10 person (for example) standing before live, real information"

As I mentioned in my recent reply to DarthJayDub, there is no relationship between the Local Guide Level and the so-called trust score that a user gains over time by making edits.  Keep in mind that there are many ways to achieve, say level 6 or 10. Someone can do just reviews, or only upload photos, and they'll be able to reach level 10.  I've seen more than one local guide who IMNHO gamed the system by clicking on 100,000 "ratings" -- for places the guide had never been.

Local Guide Levels are a "benchmark" of users contributions.  Clicking on thousands of ratings doesn't mean they're an expert in editing Maps (or that they're even credible in ratings for that matter).  Making thousands of edits in maps ... well, that can help  ; )

Nonetheless, your question is a good one.  In remote areas, even rural areas, pending edits may well languish for want of a local guide reviewing them.  AFAIK, this, at some point, translates into a "Not Applied" status "as Google was unable to verify the information/edit", albeit I have had many reviews approved after six months or more.

"And then, how does an "automated system" work either jointly or independently of the "local operator(s)"?"

How it works is probably only known by a few employees (Googlers) who continually tweak the bots ; )  If everyone knew how it worked, then we would (likely) all know how to get edits approved -- including those that shouldn't be approved.
Level 10

Hello @RB9,

"In the "Check The Facts" section. SOME Edits appear for approval. But not many. This is supposed to be the venue for Guides to approve other's additions."

Yes, you are correct.  The issue, I think remains that "simple verification" by the nature of an edit appearing in "Check the Facts" isn't likely (in my view) to trigger approval of the edit.  I would think it would have to be a balancing act (which the algorithm would figure out) between the so-called trust-level of the local guide that made the edit, combined with the so-called trust-level of the local guide that is "checking the facts".

If I make a Local Guide level 10 edit (where the level 10 contributions are made up of 95% map/POI/road edits) and the edit is "Pending", I don't really anticipate an edit approval/"Applied" from a positive response to "Checking the facts" from a level 6 (or even a level 10) Local Guide, where 95% of their contributions consist of "ratings" or "photos".  <-- Again, I have no knowledge of how this actually works -- so this is 'jus my cent-cent worth.

For more on Editing trust level, see this excellent post by @Flash.

Looking at the comments over the past week, it sounds that what is needed is some sort of an appeal process when something is "not applied." The courts have appeals processes. Government has appeal processes. Clubs and organizations have appeal processes in their Rules and Regulations and/or By-Laws. Employers and employees have arbitration processes.

This might be something that could be sent to a Google Local Guides Chapter. Unfortunately, it sounds like the shear number of appeals could be potentially overwhelming for Local Guide Chapters.

At the present time, the optics to a local guide are that things are very arbitrary when it comes to suggestions being applied or not. This is leading to feelings of frustration and even anger in some cases. When people feel that a process is fair, emotions tend to be calmer and cooler heads often prevail.

Questions remain - what does a fair and efficient appeals process look like? Who is responsible for implementing such a procedure and how can they be contacted? How can input and suggestions be made to help in crafting this appeals process?

Level 7

@MapWrangler thank you for the response.   Yes you are right I just want to know what to do to make the edit stick.  How do we tell what level of trust we have?   Is that viewable?

Hi,

I try to make lot of edits in Google Maps to help people to reach actual locations. But it takes lot of time and sometime the edits are no accepted. I want Google should recognize the edits done by Local Guide of some level on priority and edits to me made quickly.

Recent time I am facing issue with adding businesses without website.

Example:  today I tried to add a manpower recruiting agencies.  While adding I was asked for the business website, since they don't have any website, I have skipped the question. Immediately I received Not Applicable message.  Similar experience I had twice.

The website requirement is recently added.

1. Here I want to know in what all categories website is must?

 2. What is the alternative?  In India  most of the businesses do not have website,  for them what is the alternative way of adding without NOT APPLIED ISSUES?

Thanks in advance

Every time not applied,  add road, update place or anything, unfortunately, it's not a way for the local guides to develop the maps.

@susana1is right, I have the same problem with the nature and time.

It's very difficult change, impossible sometimes, the name of a local approved time ago with other name, and maybe other category.

I can understand the reasons, but for now the system is not ready for changes over real time.

It's like have one photo when you can have the whole video. I hope this get better

Hi @Irfansalamat,

Thank you for reaching out.

It is perhaps due to the longer process of verification of the business hours as well as the phone number.

Please make sure to let it unfold in a bit more time.

Hi @DeniGu is there any way to help Google verify the information? Eg by providing photos, inside and out, whereby they can also interrogate the GPS code within the photos uploaded, showing the location taken?? Or some other ways to assist?

Gracias y saludos Kontxi

It's frustrating to have achievements for adding new content or improving existing content like reviews and photos yet no Local Guide achievements for helping combat the overwhelming amount of spam out there.

I should be a gosh darn level 10 hero in that department!

Related: I wish local guides were given more weight when reporting spam too.

For example I can't tell you how many times I've edited a listing like:

"ACME INC. ® - BEST LOCAL SEO NEAR ME - MARKETING AND WEB DESIGN"

to:

"Acme Inc."

and then had it rejected an reverted back to the spammy keyword stuffed name.

Then if I report the listing as spam it sits "Pending" for months or longer. Considering the number of approved edits and my Local Guide standing, and even location sharing, I feel like I should be given a bit more credit.

@sonnyNg Additional info: I believe many spammers are utilizing the GMB API to insta-revert name change suggestions as I've experienced on several occasions my de-spamming attempts being reverted within seconds even if it's at 2am local time.

@DeniGu

Reg edit status “Pending” or “Not Applied” suggestion

In this regard I would like to enlighten that while applying for spots pictures address longitude latitude  in google map by dropping pin to identity the exact spot like shop or street or ant important history locations there are already hundreds of crowded dropped spots seen in red tag so such vast area it will certainly go a miss while identifying the map locations should not be concluded as missing

hence I will suggest that while we take pictures we may use GPS Camera app which will identify the photo taken time date and location with google map giving latitude and longitude details so the chances of erring may reduce as wrong reporting

Further to Keshavan's comment, if you use Adobe Lightroom CC or 6, when importing photos into Library, on the menu on the right (under Histogram), if you scroll down to the Metadata section, at the bottom, there is a spot to enter GPS coordinates, if your DSLR or Mirrorless camera does not put this into the photo's Metadata. They have to be in degrees, minutes and seconds. The Google Maps decimal coordinates found in the location's URL in Google Maps can be converted to degrees/minutes/seconds using a program like  https://rechneronline.de/geo-coordinates/batch.php

Now, if I can just get my location added so that I can post photos with the metadata in it.....  😉
