You can expect that Connect Moderators will be willing to share their knowledge with you, whether it be about Google Maps, the Local Guides program or Connect. They're pretty popular and not on Connect constantly, nor are they expected to be, so please be patient and mindful of the 5 cores values of Connect as you normally would. Do not tag them just because you want them to see your post. Connect Moderators are not Google employees, nor do they have any special superpowers beyond being awesome Local Guides. If you need something urgent or sensitive, please reach out to one of the Google Moderators.

Please give these amazing Local Guides a virtual high-five and thank you!

Interested in becoming a moderator for Local Guides Connect? Here’s what we’re looking for:

  • Local Guides Level 5+ who actively and consistently contribute to Google Maps and Local Guides Connect, following our program rules and 5 cores values of Connect.
  • Friendly and respectful community members who help keep Connect a warm, welcoming and informative place with their knowledge, accuracy and tone.

There is no application or nomination process. Keep contributing and engaging with your fellow Local Guides and the Local Guides team will be in touch if you are selected.

Note: Due to the volume of private messages Googlers receive, I do not read or respond to private messages. Please post publicly so others may benefit from your discussion. If you require urgent assistance, please tag a Google Moderator. Thank you!.

Yes, I think it would be great @OnyedikaBenjaminJ@TraciC.

India consist of 5-6 maasive metro cities in terms of population where you would find amazing people contributing to google maps everyday.

It would be great if people can look into that. I would be glad to be a part of any process in that.

Thanks @OnyedikaBenjaminJ for voicing out the opinion.

Googler

As I have shared earlier in this thread, we do not pick someone based on their geographic location, but look for folks based on a number of criteria, including how helpful, knowledgeable and accurate they are with their interactions here in Connect and on Google Maps. Everyone has something of value to add to Connect as Connect is a global community and while it's great to have global representation, all Connect Moderators, no matter where they are from or what language they speak, are helping Local Guides from all corners of the world each day.

While we do not accept nominations, we are constantly on the look out for new Connect Moderators and when a Local Guide meets our criteria, we will invite them to be a Connect Moderator and you'll see this post updated with their information.

Thanks, everyone.

Connect Moderator

Hi @Jagadeesh_Reddy we (the Connect Moderators) far from perfect but we try to be helpful :).

The advice I'd give anyone who wants to be a Connect Moderator is to be active here on Connect, welcome new people, genuinely help people with issues by answering their question and talking them through how to do things. Try to avoid the cookie cutter answers and personalise your response to the person who asked the question - where possible always include a reference to a post written by a Googler, a featured Blog post, or a support post (hosted on the Google Product forums) so people get good quality answers and can see you took the time to research your thoughts. Always be fair and simply ignore, country, race, sex and religion of a person - treat everyone the same way you wish to be treated. Additionally try to be a good Local Guide in Maps. People stand out here for lots of reasons, some great like @KarenVChin and @ErmesT and some stand out because they're on a crusade to respond to every new post within 2 seconds, or they're not very nice or they're always hunting their next kudos. Be the former, be in it to help your Connect community rather than yourself. I can't speak for the Googlers because they don't reveal how they choose people but I can speak that for me, the positive helpful people stand out much more than the others.

Regards Paul

Ya my friend @PaulPavlinovich I'm doing it almost 16hours I'm here per day. I always try to find suitable answer for our new LG people for their response and thant they can fix their issues.

I don't give answers without reference most of the time, I always try to keep reference or search for answers which suits the most appropriate one.

I'm learning new things daily so that I can help people in my own English so that I can get straight to the point it doesn't mean that I'm rude, I use to give straight answers and then after that I use to suggest them what to do and what not to done here.

Kudos ? Right now I'm not expecting it most from  people because I'm learning policys and updates posted by Connect Moderaters like you.

I know you guys are always there to help us and I am also trying o help people in my way with out violating LG rules.

Thanks for your advice @PaulPavlinovich I sure keep you advice in my mind. 🙂

Happy Guiding,
Jagadeesh Reddy.
Connect Moderator

Your English is excellent @Jagadeesh_Reddy. Great that you contribute so much but I would actually suggest cutting back the hours a little, 16 hours a day is awesome for a short time, but it will burn you out. Depending on what else is happening in my life I might not even get into Connect every day- lately I think I've made it in here for a few hours spread across two weeks because of a major youth event I'm administering. Other days like today I've been here all day trying to be useful, both in answering questions, but also managing the spam and generating a new post to give people something to think about with their own contributions. Remember Local Guides and Connect are something that we do for fun because we get something out of it. If it becomes a job its a pretty poorly paid one ;).

The good people I meet here on Connect make the activity of moderator very rewarding, I love to have chats like this one. Sometimes though, there are some "interesting" people to deal with. Fortunately a wonderful team of Googlers support the volunteer moderators and are always there to give us advice, lend a hand or when necessary take over if we're in too deep.

Regards Paul

Well ya @PaulPavlinovich 16 hours is bit too much for a normal human. Sadly on Working days I won't be able to give much time, since I use work at night shift I try to keep myself updated by learning new things and sharing the updates which I got.

So day and night I'm here man. Why need Facebook or other social apps when we have such wonderful people around here ?

I'm just an ordinary guy who supports his family and has goals of helping people in some way. Hungry man never get sleep I'm hungry to learn and keep my self updated.

Since I'm new to LG I'm just understanding how others think and how others people does contribution so that I can tune up my self. I wish I could have joined LG earlier but I don't regret because it's never to be late 🙂

Thank you for sharing and guiding me with wonderful message @PaulPavlinovich

Happy Guiding,

Hi @Jagadeesh_Reddy

Thanks for your words.

What @PaulPavlinovich

is telling you is very important, it is the first time that I read a so clear, (honest and passionate at the same time) message about being a moderator. Even if it seems that I am always here, this is not right, even if it is true that I am coming in Connect frequently, only to see if there is something needed.

Take care of you, and have a fun, this is a basic rule.

A few weeks ago I was talking to you about the use of original content, and I see a good improvement in this side.

We all enjoy Connect, because is a 360° vision of the world.

My first aim is to offer, to our fellow Local Guides, more windows for watching out, more options for thinking about the beauty of our planet. This is an interesting way for helping people, offering photos and stories to think about.

@KarenVChin

can confirm this. We do not need only help, we want to offer a reason for staying in here, beautiful stories to read, beautiful photos, interesting conversations. This is the point that mark the difference. And the reason why Karen is featured in Connect today.

Hope you will think about it

Ermes

It's not like I don't like to see don't like or don't want to "more windows for watching out" I just don't like jumping in to ocean without knowing swimming 🙂  I'm here to learn and absorb new ideas and also help other people what I know :).

Every Sunday I use to take my bike and explore new place and I use to contribute. Right now I'm giving more time to LG because on week days It's not possible for me to contribute much.

I'm really glad that every one is concerned and I'm sure having fun outside LG on week ends. @ErmesT

My vision of this place is exactly this. Connect is a powerful word, is much more than putting a lot of people in the same place. If I am interpreting in the correct way also @TraciC words, there is much more than this. We are not flattening ourselves behind a common tool, we are using the tool to learn, to discover, to build bridges between cultures, to discover the diversity that is so important for the life in our world. I can imagine this place like the new Google earth, a place where you can watch around and, only moving a bit your head, discover the beauty in every place, discover places that you never heard, and learning from it.

With this thought in my mind I started, months ago, my most famous thread "Flowers-with-five-petals-only

With the idea to use flowers as a keyword for exchange photos from every place, discovering the beauty everywhere.

Photos are very powerful to share experiences, because images are the best to drive the imagination, so reading posts we can visit and learn about places that are unknown to us.

Am I crazy?

@Jagadeesh_Reddy i must confess that you doing greatly great, you are already at the top, you need not anyones approval. Keep it up

Ha ha ha thanks man 🙂 will see what future has reply for that @OnyedikaBenjaminJ

Happy Guiding,
Jagadeesh Reddy.
Connect Moderator

@Jagadeesh_Reddy,

My advice for you is simple—do not to spend 16 hours / day online here on Connect and be yourself.  Overthinking or over analyzing is wasting your time.  We are all volunteers; we are not employees of Google. You get paid in your real job. You have a family - enjoy them, be with them.

What we do is a hobby. When I am out in my community, I enjoy reviewing, taking photos, answering questions as it relates to Google Maps. I do this for me. I don’t expect perks from Google. I did not actively peruse to become a Connect Moderator. I can tell you being offer the free 1TB or 100GB Google Drive promotions was not my motivations to sign up and be a Local Guide. I will also tell you I never signed up for either promotion too.

Being here on Connect, we learn from each other both about how to be better Local Guides, how to be better using Google Maps, and what I personally enjoy is learning about fellow Local Guides cultures— their foods, their celebrations, the country & the city they live in, etc.

I agree with @PaulPavlinovich. It’s about having interesting conversations that keeps me coming back. I am curious by nature and being here on Connect has given me opportunities to meet and learn from fellow Local Guides that I would never meet in my everyday life. For example, I’ve meet some wonderful Local Guides from Africa, Maldives Island, Tierra del Fuego, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Russia.

I find no matter what our gender, race, age, religion, or education, we are the same—people. Being real and authentic is what will make you “you.”  Like in life, you will not click with everyone you meet here on Connect, and that is ok. You cannot be everything to everybody. The ones you do click with, you develop friendships with. Wouldn’t you agree @ErmesT?

Go with the flow, be open, and enjoy the Local Guides journey,

Cheers,

Karen

Ya sure I ll take this advice and I already reduced my timing being here on online 🙂 @KarenVChin.

You are doing a lot in the community, and I really like and enjoy your reply to a lot of different questions. You are really one that read all the Help desk.

I was like you, in my first beginning in Connect, so I already know that the risk is to over-stress yourself.

We should have a lot of fun in here, otherwise we loose the reason for being here, and to interact with the community.

Thanks for everything

Ermes

Loose the reason being here ? I think tat won't happen @ErmesT. I like being here interacting please which am not good at. I m just improving interpersonal skills as well as help our fellow LG people as much as I can.

Over stress ? Trust me LG is what keeping me stress free compared to my job and family. These day I'm away switching myself based on my free time and resting time.

Everything seems to be set now, who doesn't like helping people here ? You must has felt that good feeling whenever we answer or interact with other people.

Hello I'm struggling to find out how to become a local guide moderator.

The link on Google brought me here. However. No process seen.

Can anyone help please. John

Hi @Juandemarco

You can easily start a local community by creating a Google+ page for the Local Guides in the city you stay in - guidelines can be found here.

Once you’ve created your community, please complete this form to receive training as a moderator. If selected, we’ll be in touch to schedule moderator training. Additionally, you will be eligible to receive support form the Local Guides team after you have been trained. Please note that the Local Guides team supports one community per area and only one owner per community will be trained - so do check if a local community already exists before creating one.

Level 5

@Juandemarco, is not by struggling, is by your good work that can take you there. Keep up with your good work thanks.

@ErmesT it maybe clearly indicated in post for you. But wasn't for me as I wouldn't have asked on the post. I'm grateful for those who have clearly taken time out to respond and educate me more in this. Gracias.

Hi Adel_Haddad,

I could say why not an African or a Jew ?

This is not the problem, you must know that it's a new program and they select step by step regarding the community of your area and also the needful.

Be sure you'll see one Arab in the moderators.

Level 8

Thanks for your kind response

As you said it is step by step

Hopefully I will be that lucky Arabian😆

Who knows😊

Level 10

To be the one you must be a good contributor on Google maps and be active on connect to start.

And f you're lucky as you mentioned you'll be contacted to be part of the dream team.

I advise you to be focused on how to be a good contributor and your hope can be possible.
