Editor’s note: Connect Live applications are now closed as of 8:00 pm GMT on March 30.
Eager to apply for Connect Live 2020? Applications don’t open until March 2, but we have everything you need to prepare for the 28-day application period. If you want to get a head start and prep your application, you’ve come to the right place.
Applications will only be open to Local Guides Levels 5+
Once the application site is open, you will not be able to save your application and come back to it. When you begin your application, you should have all materials prepared that you need to submit it, including a Connect post, a 60-second video, and a list on Google Maps. If you want feedback for your application responses, you’re welcome to create a discussion on Connect so that your peers can weigh in. You may also consider creating a Google Doc with responses that you can circulate to others, but the Local Guides team will only review complete applications submitted via the application site.
Application item 1: Connect Post
The first piece required for your Connect Live 2020 application is to create a new (created after today, February 14) post on Connect. You should post your response using the Local Stories topic.
This year, we have two Connect post prompts for you to choose from:
For guidance on writing your Connect application post and selecting the best prompt for you, read this.
Application item 2: Application video on YouTube
You need to complete a 60-second YouTube video to include with your application.
Two video prompts to choose from are listed below:
For tips on creating your video and examples of quality application videos, read this.
Application item 3: Google Maps list
You also need to create a new (created after today, February 14) list on Google Maps about any theme, including a title, description, and at least five places.
Need help making a list? Here’s a guide with everything you need to get started. You can also review this post for inspiration from Local Guides who were selected to attend Connect Live 2019.
In addition to these items, we’ll be looking for high-quality, well-rounded, and consistent contributions on Google Maps over the past 12 months. We also want to see candidates who have consistent involvement with the Local Guides community such as actively contributing on Connect or hosting meet-ups. Joint applications will not be considered.
For further guidance, read these application tips from previous attendees of a Local Guides flagship event. You can also refer to our Help Desk and Announcements boards for additional information. We look forward to seeing what you create for your Connect Live 2020 application!
