"in a war, nobody wins - we are all losers"
With this thought in my mind, last Sunday we (Antonella - my wife - and me) went to explore the territory of the "battle of the solstice", in the Montello area, very close to where I live.
For the centenary of the 1st World War, many improvements have been done, and you can visit many places that were involved in this terrible moment of Europe's life.
The battle of the solstice starts in June 15, 1918, and ended in June 23, and in some way marked one important point: the beginning of the end of the war.
Many small towns, in the area involved in the conflict, added to their names, after the war, the words "della battaglia" that means "of the battle", a perpetual remembrance of that terrible moment. Feel free to follow the Piave river in the maps, to discover it. In many areas there are monuments and museums, or just part of the territory, that can be visited and explored. We can call it "tourism", but for many of us, living in here, this is just "memory to save".
With this post I don't want to celebrate the war, my aim is to create a "room for the memory", inviting all the LG of Europe to come in here with their own contribution, keeping in mind that :"in a war, nobody wins - we are all losers"
This photo has been taken at the entrance of the "British Cemetery", in Giavera del Montello. The Cemetery will be the subject of my next post
