The 7 Vintage Mosques in Jakarta

Istiqlal MosqueIstiqlal MosqueJakarta is consist of different people, with different ethnic and religion from all around Indonesia. One of them is Islam. Few of historical building around Jakarta are mosques. Not many people notice this, because these are not common tourist attraction. Jakarta government manage to conserve this historical building. Jakarta has 26 old mosques, but in here I write the best 7 in my opinion, and I have already visited!

These mosque have the same name, but infact different location. Both, made at the same day, 22 June 1527. That was the day Fatahillah arrived in this land after won the war againts the Portugal. So, that date was pronounced as Jakarta Birthday. The mosques has different kind material, but almost same design.

(1). “Si Pitung” Al Alam Mosque, Marunda, Jakarta Utara (1527)

The originally, the mosque was surrounded by the sea, si Pitung spent so much time in Masjid. In this mosque, there is a well with three flavour: original, salty and brackish water. Kind of hard to visit this place with car, cause there is no road for car.

(2). Al-Alam Cilincing Mosque (1527)

The Second mosque, Al Alam Cilincing, built in the same time, that's hard to believe, but that is the fact. The mosque also built beside the sea, and the unique fact, the mosque wall was built with woods and bamboo. If you came to this mosque, it is near the road, and has parking lots. That is very convenience.

Angke Mosque was built in 1751. The location is in the middle of suburbs. This mosque was noticed, some document about Jakarta declared that this is the oldest. I assume they never found the Twin Mosque! The story behind the mosque is beatiful. The mosque was built my the Balinese who converted to Islam. The main signature still exist, It is the combination of Bali, Dutch, Java and Chinese architecture.

Al Azhar was built in 1958, It built with the school complex beside it. They named it 'Masjid Agung'. It was the biggest Mosque in Jakarta at that time. In 1960, The Great Mosque became the Al-Azhar Great Mosque following the suggestion of Mahmud Shaltut, from Egypt. Al Azhar is a beautiful white mosque. It is easy to find, since it is in the main protocol, there is Trans Jakarta Station and MRT station nearby. My son goes to the school beside the mosque. ?

It has various facilities, such as Air Condition, nice and thick carpets, playground for kids, ballrooms, and many others. It also near the Trans Jakarta bus station.

Re: The 7 Vintage Mosques in Jakarta

Really nice post @Ddimitra

I like to see the different mosques. The pictures are all from outside.

Especially the Christian Catholic and Orthodox do not like if you take pictures inside. They maybe only accept.

How is it with a inside photo of the mosque? Is this excepted?
