Pakistan is heaven of food, almost in every big city of Pakistan there is food street, which fulfilled the craving of every type of food of people here. Spicy or salty, sweet or sour, you are someone who is a foodie, then visiting the food streets to get an authentic taste of the local cuisines is a must; especially if it is dinner time. The attraction is food street that offers a variety of local delights which will satiate everyone’s hunger.
There are lot of food which are famous worldwide with the traditional Pakistani touch, Like Biryani, Pulao, Qorma, Kunna Paya, tikka BBQ, but today I want to introduce Pakistani traditional Mutton/Lamb Karhai. Which is the favourite dish for Pakistanis including me 😊, and you can find a Karhai Restaurant in almost every area in Karachi.
In our meetup at Bumbai (Mumbai) Koyla Karhai , Karachi, we tried again Mutton Karhai with different recipe with some Bar B Q, and not just taste and eat, but we tried to captured it by our mobile cameras, with very simple recipe, which everybody can try at home as per thier taste.
We were almost group of a dozen people, so we ordered and ate 3.5kg Karhai, but here I m Sharing mutton Karhai suitable for two to three persons.
Ingredients :
Mutton/Lamb meat – half kg (boiled)
Ghee (oil) – half cup
Chili powder – one table spoon
Crushed black pepper – one table spoon
Cumin roasted and crushed – one table spoon
Fried crushed coriander – one table spoon
Yogurt – half cup
Cream – three table spoons
Ginger sliced – one table spoon
Ginger garlic paste – one table spoon
Tomatoes – four sliced
Salt – one table spoon
Crushed red pepper – one table spoon
Fresh coriander – two table spoons
Green chilies – four
Method :
Take a wok, add ghee/oil,
Put ginger garlic paste and sliced tomatoes, cover it and cook it for ten minutes.
Then put boiled mutton/lamb meat, salt, crushed red pepper, crushed black pepper, chili powder, roasted & crushed cumin and coriander, cover it and cook for ten to fifteen minutes, until everything is mixed well.
Then put yogurt, mix and fry for two minutes.
Then add cream, ginger sliced, chopped green chili and chopped fresh coriander, fry for one minute.
Now take of off the flame, dish out & garnish with ginger flakes and green chili and fresh coriander.
Serve this spicy and delicious karhai with naan (tandoori Roti) or chappaties, or you can try it with fried rice if Roti is not available easily.
Local guides connect is like a family, so we can try simple recipes of different countries foods easily here.
And I hope you can try this at home because the recipe is not very difficult and ingredients are easy to get every where.
Bonne apete 🙂
