Shravan(Sawan) Month the holiest month in the Hindu Calendar

Shravan(Sawan) Month the holiest month in the Hindu Calendar

The Shrawan Maas ( Month ) is the 5th month in the Hindu Calendar. During this month, the Nakshatra Shravan is the ruling Star on full Moon day and therefore this month has been named as Shravan. As such, this entire month is dedicated to Lord Shiva and worshipping him during this month is said to bring most Auspicious results and blessings of Lord Shiva. Many people observe fast for this entire month and make offerings to Lord Shiva everyday. A large number of people get various Pujas for Lord Shiva performed during this period which gives very auspicious results as per our ancient texts and scripts.

Legend Behind Shravan month :
As per ancient legends, the churning of sea ( Samudra Manthan ) was done during this month of Shravan. It was a combined effort done by both, the Devatas ( Gods ) & the Danvas ( Demons ). The Sumeru Parvat was used for churning and the Snake Vasuki which circles around the neck of Lord Shiva was used as a rope. Large number of invaluable Gems came out of sea as a result of this churning. However, at the end, poison ( Halahal ) came out which had the capacity to destroy everything. None of the Gods or Demons were able to deal with this poison and ultimately, Lord Shiva came to the rescue. Lord Shiva drank the entire poison and stored it in his throat which turned blue due to poison. Hence, Lord Shiva got the name Neel Kanth ( Blue Throat ). This way, Lord Shiva gave a new life to everyone during this month and therefore, this month is supposed to be very auspicious.

Things to do in the Month of Shravan :
The entire month of Shravan is very auspicious and observing the following can give very good results by the blessings of Lord Shiva :
 - If possible, a person should keep fast on all the days of Shravan month. He should go to Lord Shiva temple everyday after taking Bath and offer Panchamrut ( A Special preparation made of 5 items viz, milk, curd, ghee, honey & gangajal ) to Lord Shiva as well as Bilva Leaves. A person can consume milk & milk preparations, fruits and other items that are used during fast & pray to Lord Shiva.
- If fasting everyday is not possible, then atleast every person should keep fast on every Mondays of Shravan month.
- Wearing a Rudraksha during this month is also considered very auspicious.
A person should recite Maha Mrityunjay Mantra for as many times as possible.
Maha Mrityunjay Mantra :

 त्र्यम्बकं यजामहे सुगन्धिं पुष्टिवर्धनम्
उर्वारुकमिव बन्धनान्  मृत्योर्मुक्षीय मामृतात् ॥
" Om Trayambakam Yajamahe Sugandhim Pushti Vardhanam
Urwarukmivbandhanaan Mrityormuksheey Maamritaat "

Meaning : OM. We worship and adore you, O three-eyed one, O Shiva.
You are sweet gladness, the fragrance of life, who nourishes us,
restores our health, and causes us to thrive.
As, in due time, the stem of the cucumber weakens,
and the gourd if freed from the vine, so free us
from attachment and death, and do not withhold immortality.

Yes my dear @Ravi_Kiran

Peoples celebrate Rakshabandhan around the world. its very Popular festival in India.

Raksha Bandhan, or simply Rakhi is a Hindu festival, celebrated in many parts of the Indian subcontinent, notably India and Nepal.[2]Raksha bandhan means "bond of protection". It is observed on the full moon day of the Hindu luni-solar calendar month of Shravana, which typically falls in Gregorian calendar month of August.[3][4]

The festival celebrates the love and duty between brothers and sisters.[5] It is also popularly used to celebrate any brother-sister type of relationship between men and women who may or may not be biologically related. On Raksha Bandhan, a sister ties a rakhi (sacred thread) on her brother's wrist with a prayer for his prosperity and happiness.[5][6] This symbolizes the sister's love. The brother gives her a token gift and a promise to protect her. Wikipedia

Re: Shravan(Sawan) Month the holiest month in the Hindu Calendar

Thanks for the post @NareshDarji bro.

The holiest place for lord Shiva to pray is the Pashupatinath temple, Kathmandu where I went yesterday. Actually I started my worldwide map edit walk from there.

I found that many pilgrims were coming from India. You have provided such a nice background in the post. I specially liked the मन्त्र that you have used here. Shrawan month of this year is even special for pilgrims since there are 5 Mondays in a month. This is the rare case. So you all ( @NareshDarji@mhjn@Ravi_Kiran) are welcome to have a blessings of lord Shiva.

But there needs a little correction bro. The Shrawan is the 4th month (not the 5th month) of Hindu calendar.
