Re: Share your best tips for other Local Guides in the New Year here

I live in India where almost 135 crore people live.

India is very ancient country as well new infra comes in.

It is very difficult to find the address or the place wherever we want to go.So grt help other people are getting with google Map.

So wherever I go or visit the place I write the review or save location for other's help.

As Local Guides, you’re the explorers who share daily discoveries on Google Maps, from reviewing great lunch picks to photographing lesser known parks and other beautiful finds near you. While connected by a mission to make it easier (and tastier!) to navigate the world, each of you contributes in your own way. To celebrate all these efforts and kick off 2017, we’re compiling a list of your best tips from the past year.

On this post, share your insights into:

  • Taking great photos
  • Writing helpful, detailed reviews
  • Adding hidden or great new places
  • Answering questions
  • Tracking down missing and incorrect information (editing a place)

Feel free to add anecdotes and inspiring stories about any of your favorite local finds and give kudos to anything added here that you find helpful

Re: Share your best tips for other Local Guides in the New Year here

Hello.

I do tons of map editing, i.e. Road Segments, corrections, etc. Why doesn't Google give points for doing this important activity. The map is more that a social media device and the basemap always needs correcting, etc.

So how can I get Google to recognize the points should be awarded for (base) map editing?

Thanks!

Dave.

Dear Dave,

If I am right the upraisal is done after various climbing many hurdles. Better work without intentions or do not expect rewards on selective guidelines or parameters.

* EDIT and UPDATE reviews to reflect recent experiences. Sometimes I have a mediocre experience somewhere after a management change or similar... I try to update old reviews to reflect that so the contributions I make are current.

* Think of lighting, angle, and composition for images you add. A photo that is too dark to see doesn't add anything to GM.

* Always be as involved as you can be to make yours and others LG experience the best it can be!

Re: Share your best tips for other Local Guides in the New Year here

Dear Local Guides, hope all's well with you. (This message is a reply to @NixonM, who's tips about shapefiles may break Google's terms: https://www.localguidesconnect.com/t5/General-Discussion/Share-your-best-tips-for-other-Local-Guides...)

You can use your own local knowledge, your own GPS data, a place's official website and Street View as resources for suggested edits. Maps and Local Guides Help says:

"Local Guides...gather facts... The local guides badge symbolizes on-the-ground expertise..." https://support.google.com/local-guides/answer/7358351

"What makes a good edit... Use the official website. Don’t include links to social networking sites, review aggregators, or other similar websites." https://support.google.com/maps/answer/7084895

Owners of large map data can share with Google, as in: https://www.google.com/help/maps/mapcontent/

You're breaking Google's terms if you're suggesting edits based on maps/data you don't own, as in:

"Prohibited Conduct. When using Google Maps/Google Earth, you may not: ...do anything inappropriate, illegal, or in violation of others' rights (including their privacy, publicity, and intellectual property rights)." https://www.google.com/intl/en-US_US/help/terms_maps.html

"When you upload, submit, store, send or receive content to or through our Services, you give Google (and those we work with) a worldwide license... Make sure you have the necessary rights to grant us this license for any content that you submit to our Services." https://www.google.com/policies/terms/
