#letsguide Ross Island once was the seat of British power.In the year 1857, the British rulers thought of establishing a permanent penal settlement at the island's. In 1872, the islands were united under a single Chief Commissioner of Port Blair. The British built Swimming pool, Cemetery, Church, power station, printing press, Commissioner bungalow, soldiers barracks, children play area etc. Todays Island has it's charming ruins to boast about abandoned during the World War II. Ross is now hone for Peacocks and Deer. The boat charge from mainland to island is Rs 750/- and the time limit for Tourists to spend on island is 2 hrs.
