On the 2nd of September 2018, a few of our Malaysia Local Guides from Kuala Lumpur traveled over 350 kms up north to visit the UNESCO Heritage Georgetown of Penang and participated in the annual Penang Street Food Festival 2018.

Our video summary below ๐
A full day of wonderful experiences (the longer version).
3 of us @Saidulkarim @SohelHossain and myself had taken an early morning bus from Kuala Lumpur (TBS station https://goo.gl/maps/5DtYsY6Hh7m) to Butterworth (https://goo.gl/maps/4Me99shaXkw) in Penang state, which was about a 350km journey and took about 5 hours.
We started very early in the morning and had reached Butterworth at about noon time. Butterworth is on the mainland of peninsular Malaysia and we had to take a ferry over to Penang Island. (https://goo.gl/maps/pGWu3A4UKr82). It was a very pleasant ride and the 20 minute journey costs about USD 0.30 per person. From the distance we could see Georgetown and also the imminent signs of rain.
First order of the day was to get some lunch. We had decided to eat at the famous Nasi Kandar Line Clear (https://goo.gl/maps/maEKXGSdpAS2) which had a super long queue and had to wait over 30 minutes to order. This is a local Penang Indian Muslim mixed rice with lots of different dishes and curries. Price was good and it was quite tasty. Having our stomachs filled, we went off for our next activity.
One of the most important places to visit in Penang is Penang Hill. We had taken a local bus there and from the ground station, taken the funicular train up to the peak of Penang Hill of close to 900m high. (https://goo.gl/maps/fnq49xjWW5u)
The ride was scenic and interesting, the only thing we weren't too happy about was the price of the entrance and the train ticket of RM 30 for foreigners which was about USD 7.50. At the peak, we visited many places include the highest mosque in Penang. (https://goo.gl/maps/18e1LAjTABm)
The view from the top was just amazing, allowing us to see almost all of Georgetown from the peak.
Soon there after and after beating the huge queue to come down from the peak, we had taken a bus back to Georgetown for the Penang Street Food Festival which was showcasing over 100 street food vendors selling so many varieties of delicious food and drinks. We spent all night there walking around, eating and drinking, and met up a few of the Penang Local Guides members. Thanks to @EugeneWong for hosting us there.
We had a bit of time to visit other place around town during the day including Komtar, the tallest building in Penang and many of the souvenir and snack shops around town.
Overall, it was just a wonderful experience travelling with some Local Guides friends to a far away place to visit and join in the activities there. Penang has been such a interesting place and there is so much more to see, only we had more time.
Visitors to Malaysia should take at least 2 to 3 days to explore the Penang Island and the many attractions there.
Saying hi to our Malaysia Local Guides friends who could not make it this time round. @PavelSarwar @Haseeb @AkmalB @Shirni @AlsmieA @Nabeel-Khan
