RECAP ON NNEWI ACCESSIBIITY WALK

I have always believed that the essence of organizing Accessibility walk is to create awareness and also help people with impaired disabilities by assisting them in finding more accessible destinations and places on the map. The last accessibility walked organized by @UchechukwuEnem six months ago, recently made Fides Communications which has been our meeting point to now have accessible path ways for those we disabilities.
The departure took place from Fides Communication, Okpuno, Awka by 8.30am, with my colleague @UchechukwuEnem, we entered a tricycle popularly called ‘keke’ to Eastern Mass Transit along the Market Road popularly called, ‘Eke- Awka’, were we boarded a bus to Nnewi town. On our way, the bus got flat tire at Adazi ani of which we wasted more than 30 minutes in repairing the bus tire. After the repair, our journey to Nnewi continued and we arrived Nnewi by 10.13am. From Awk to Nnewi is 45 minutes with public transit.
On our arrival, we took a walk to Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital (NAUTH). The hospital was quiet and the whole environment was tidy and clean. We walked around the hospital and took pictures of places, of which we observed that almost the whole wards and buildings inside the hospital have accessibility path ways. We left the Hospital by 12.31pm.
After we left the Hospital, we took a walk down to Nnewi Bank road along Nwanyi Imo roundabout. We observed that none of the banks have accessibility path ways. After a long walk under the hot sun, usual Nnewi traffic and reckless driving of motorcyclists, we left bank road by 1.30pm.
From the bank road we took a Bike to the traditional ruler of Nnewi, HRH. Dr. K.O.N Orizu III(JP.CON). It was a 10 minutes journey with a bike and we gathered that the traditional ruler remains the oldest ruler king in Anambra State. The palace was really very big with many parking lots, a mini stadium, ancient heritage, sculptural art works and a hall where the King holds his meeting with his cabinet members. We engaged in a discussion with an elder and a retired Senior Staff of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Prince Iwuchukwu. We took a walk around the palace, and took pictures of some amazing art statues in the Palace.
After we left the Igwe/ King Palace, we walked down to Eke Amaobi were we bought some fruits ,and boarded Keke back to Eastern mass Transit to take us back to Awka. On our way, we alighted at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Adazi Ani, which remains the mother church and has existed for over 100 years in the community. We went inside the church to take some pictures and to drop a message. We equally took a break to relax ourselves and also engaged in a group discussion with the Parish Priest of the church. We observed that the church have an accessibility entrance and we took pictures and video of the church. After we departed from the church, we entered a bus to Awka and then departed to our various destinations.
Nnewi is the most industrialized and commercial city in Anambra State. Going to Nnewi through Awka road is 45 minutes and you will travel through 7 towns to Nnewi. They are (which is Awka, Nise, Agulu, Adazi Nnukwu, Adazi Ani, Nnokwa and Nnobi).

Re: RECAP ON NNEWI ACCESSIBIITY WALK

@OkekeNkiruka congratulations for hosting an accessibility meetup. Nice to know that you found some accessible trails and an organization recently installed a ramp following earlier awareness.

I have been to Nnewi previously and it's quite a thriving commercial town with potentials. Hope to visit again.

Thanks for supporting inclusiveness and making the world a better place!
