This time, Our Ayamonte Local Guides Comunnity, joined the Monument Month initiated by the Nepal Commnity and we checked how accessibel the Museum of The Three Caravels was as @TraciC and The Google Maps Team encouraged Local guides to do all arround the world.
Esta vez, nuestra Comunidad "Ayamonte Local Guides", se unió a la iniciativa de visitar un Monumento organizada por el Comunidad de Nepal y además comprobamos la accesibilidad del Museo de Los Tres Carabelas tal y como @TraciC y El equipo de Google Maps sugirieron a todos los guías locales en su propuesta de mejorar el trato que se les da a los usuarios de sillas de ruedas.
We decided to go to the Museum of the three Caravels located in Palos de la Frontera, in the South of Spain in the South of Europe.
Decidimos ir al Museo de las Tres Carabelas ubicado en Palos de la Frontera (Sur de España, Sur de Europa)
We arrived and parked and question 1: Is there wheelchair-accessible parking?
No, we didn´t find any placards, signs, or painting on the ground. This surprised us and ask the staff this question and they said that if any people with accessibility needs come could park in front of the main door.
Llegamos y aparcamos y pregunta 1: ¿Hay aparcamiento accesible para sillas de ruedas?
No, no encontramos letreros, carteles o pintura en el suelo. Esto nos sorprendió y decidimos preguntar al personal su respuesta fue que si cualquier persona con necesidades de accesibilidad lo necesitaba, podría aparcar en frente de la puerta principal.
Question 2: Is there a wheelchair-accessible entrance?
Yes and is at least one meter wide and does not have steps.
Pregunta 2:¿Hay una entrada accesible para sillas de ruedas?
Sí y tiene por lo menos un metro de ancho y no tiene escalones.
We bought our ticked and could see that is free for people in wheelchair.
Compramos nuestras entradas y pudimos comprobar que son gratuitas para personas que necesitan hacer uso de una silla de ruedas.
We enter in the Museum and found three Caravels that are a replic of the ones used by Cristopher Columbus in the XV century. La pinta, La niña y la Santa María. They where used by Portugal and Spain in the spice trade.
We went to first floor and had a general view of the Museum. We forgot to check the elevator (we have to be more alert next time)and we forgot because we used a ramp to acces and this one could be use by wheelchair.
Entramos en el Museo y encontramos las réplicas de las Tres Carabelas utilizadas por Cristóbal Colón en el siglo XV. La pinta, La niña y la Santa María. Un tipo de navío propio de Portugal y España en el comercio de especias.
Fuimos al primer piso para tener una visión general del museo. Nos olvidamos de revisar si había ascensor y si cumplía los requisitos mínimos de accesibilidad (tenemos que ser más atentos la próxima vez) La razón fue que utilizamos una rampa de acceso y esta si que puede ser usada por una silla de ruedas.
It was incredible how the seafarers sailed with minimun nautical instruments, basically guided by the sun, the stars and the wind.
We were surprised to know that the routes followed Columbus are still maintained today with minimal variations.
First of all we went into the carrack or Nao La Santa María, was the biggest one but with more weight and slowler speed. And this one didn´t return from the first trip made.
Once there we find Elena, a great teenager that uses a wheelchair. Her school councelor, Auxi was one of the participants in our meet-up. We spoked with Elena and ger family. And we could noticed that this carrack has access through a ramp and a wheelchair can move in the main área.
Nos resultó increíble cómo navegaban los marineros en aquel entonces con instrumentos náuticos mínimos. Básicamente guiados por el sol, las estrellas y el viento.
Nos sorprendió saber que las rutas siguió Cristobal Colón todavía se mantienen hoy en día con mínimas variaciones.
El primer navío que visitamos fue La Nao La Santa María. La más grande pero con más peso y menor velocidad. No regresó del primer viaje.
Una vez allí encontramos a Elena, una fantástica adolescente que usa silla de ruedas. Toda una suerte que su orientadora escolar, Auxi era una de las participantes en nuestra quedada. Esto nos permitió hablar con Elena y su familia. Y pudimos observar que tiene acceso a través de una rampa y una silla de ruedas se puede mover por la zona principal.
After visited this réplic, we went to Caravel “La niña”, smaller but speeder than the Santa María. Elena could go through the pier but not enter inside. And the same happend with la “Pinta”. We have to highlight her great personality and how she enjoyed even with these difficulties.
Después de visitar esta réplica, fuimos a Carabela La Niña, más pequeña pero más veloz que la Santa María. Elena pudo desplazarse a través del muelle pero no entrar en su interior. Y lo mismo ocurrió con la La Pinta. Queremos destacar la gran personalidad de esta chica y como disfrutó de su visita incluso con estas dificultades encontradas.
Of course we need to go to the toilet, so we could saw that This museum has a wheelchair-accessible restroom. The entrance to the restroom is at least one meter wide and without steps.
Este museo tiene un baño accesible para sillas de ruedas. La entrada al servicio es de por lo menos un metro de ancho y sin escalones.
And we made a break and have an ice cream and could say that yes there is wheelchair-accessible seating. Because can be accessed without going up or down steps and there is enough space for someone in a wheelchair to navigate and sit.
También hay una cafetería a la que fuimos a tomar un helado y pudimos ver que efectivamente una silla de ruedas se puede mover por el recinto. Porque se puede acceder sin subir o bajar los escalones y hay suficiente espacio para que alguien en una silla de ruedas se mueva y se siente.
The views of this places are incredible and the sunset is beautiful Is next to the Atlantic Ocean.
Las vistas de este lugar son increíbles y la puesta de sol es preciosa. Este maravilloso enclave está en el Océano Atlántico.
We have known that there are other replics in differents places. One of them, La NIÑA, in el Puerto Santa María (Cádiz)....Corpus Christi and has been recently devasted by huracán Harvey. We have news that they are trying to refloat and rebuild it.
Hemos sabido que hay otras réplicas en diferentes lugares del mundo. El Puerto de Santa María (Cádiz, España)... La NIÑA, también la podemos ver en Corpus Christi. Recientemente ha sidod devastada por el huracán Harvey. Tenemos noticias de que la están tratando de reflotar y reconstruir.
A wheelchair can moves in most part of the museum but 2 caravels, will this change in the future?… We hope so. Nonetheless Elena and her brother and their parents had a great time. Good luck in High School.

Para resumir diremos que una silla de ruedas se puede mover en la mayor parte del museo, aunque sólo se accede a una de las tres carabelas. ¿Cambiará esto en el futuro? ... Esperamos que sí.
A pesar de ello merece la pena visitarlo en silla de ruedas. Elena, su hermanoy toda la familia lo pasaron de maravilla.
