Hi Bruce,

I use the Google Photos App on my Android phone with automatic backup.

As soon as I have made all the Google Maps photos updates I need (done from the computer, choosing to add photos from my cellphone), then I can go on the cellphone in Google Photos, select all the pictures and choose from the context menu "Delete device copy".

Pictures are gone from the cellphone, but still visible thanks to Google Backup.
