Proposal for mapping for health promotion as a local guide.

I'm Yumi Sato. I live in Sapporo Hokkaido, Japan. I'm a community leader of Sapporo LG community.

We held a local guides meet up on the 22nd of April 2018. It was our 6th meet-up. (Those photos link in here)

This time was different compared to the past meet-ups because we had Jun Murayama, an amateur photographer and a local guide. He is a popular instagrammer in Sapporo.

He taught us some useful tips on how to take delicious looking photos for Google maps and those skills will really come in handy.

There were 8 people who gathered, 4 of us are local guides and the rest are newcomers. The atmosphere was more like an international gathering as 5 are Japanese, 2 are Filipinos, and 1 is Thai. I taught them on how to be a local guide.

I gave some tips and also translated some instructions from English into Japanese and vice versa.

We watched some videos related to local guides programs and shared our experiences as local guides.

After lunch, we went out to do photo walk using Google maps. Some members went to Sapporo beer museum, took some photos and uploaded them to Google maps for contributing to the community.

For those Filipino women, it was their first time to do Google mapping and they found it very interesting. ( For those girls: Tips for newcomers, students and overseas workers in Japan!)

We went out for dinner and ate Okonomi-yaki, it was their first time again and they said it was very delicious though the restaurant allowed people to smoke.

As what I have observed ,in Sapporo, the number of smokers is getting worse and it’s difficult to find smoking free areas.I always notice a thin line between smoking and non smoking public places .

I’m a concerned citizen for our community because I worry about second hand smokers. As we all know that it's bad for the health and it can cause cancer.

Local guiding has helped me become health conscious and be mindful of the people around me. That’s why ,I’ve started doing this since 2015. I always love doing it because I can share some information and get to connect with different local guides all over the world.

I made lots of friends during the first local guides summit in 2016,we always help each other and enjoy exploring different sightseeing places and food until now.

This is the only single photo that attracts more than 1.4 million views so far.

It’s an honor for me to have a lot of photo views.

It’s one of my motivation to continue doing it as a local guide that’s why I would like to join this coming event, Connect Live 2018.

Lastly, I hope to be one of the chosen attendees this year’s Connect Live in San Francisco.

Hi@KimberlyAnnG

I really want to tell you about smoking issue in my country, Japan is beautiful and safe places though lots of smokers are still smoking in public places.

I want to completely ban smoking in public places in Japan for our health.
