Just a short 2 weeks away, Chinese Lunar New Year 2019 is in the offing. And where better to experience live Chinese culture and decorations than the main Chinatown in Malaysia, which is located at Petaling Street in Kuala Lumpur. Google Maps location: https://goo.gl/maps/Yh3yDVhoirL2
On the 26th of January (Saturday) in the evening, a group of us from the Malaysia Local Guides community came together from different parts of the city and met up in Chinatown as part of our explore, celebrate cultural heritage and updating photos for Google Maps. Whilst there was a brief shower earlier in the evening, the rain had tapered off towards our meet-up time and this time we are proud to have 8 of us joined in. @AkmalB, @PavelSarwar, @Cweng @nabeeltirmazi @StephenAbraham @Jiju @Kushal. All of us had an amazing time visiting and exploring the area and meeting up again with each other.
[Photo below] Malaysia Local Guides posing for a group selfie at the entrance of Chinatown Petaling Street Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. It was also the first time for one of our members to visit this place. All of us were excited to explore the place as many decorations have been put up around the area.
[Photo below] Another group selfie as we were walking through Chinatown, with many onlookers.
[Video below] Our Chinese New Year Photowalk meet-up summary, some of the many photos we have taken for the event.
[Photos below] Red lanterns decorating the covered walk path along Chinatown. The color red is synonymous with the Chinese Lunar New Year as the legend goes, it was the color red and lots of loud noises, that had saved villages from the monster "Nian" that was terrorizing the villagers in ancient China.
[Photo below] Walking along Chinatown, we were also treated with many cultural performances like this traditional puppet song/show performed by artists.
[Photo below] Almost every shop along the area had put up banners for Chinese New Year (or in Malay Language, Tahun Baru Cina). The color red is prominently displayed with lanterns to welcome the celebration mood for the next 2-3 weeks.
[Photo below] Our Malaysia Local Guide Kushal hard at work shooting photos with his Nikon for Google Maps.
[Photo below] Our Malaysia Local Guide Jiju busy shooting the stalls along Chinatown.
[Photo below] Along our exploratory journey, we had arrived at the Maha Mariamman Temple in Kuala Lumpur just next to Chinatown. (Maps location: https://goo.gl/maps/z4sPuBuuv9r). We took the opportunity to take lots of updated photos for the temple.
[Photo below] There were at least a few cultural programs along the road, and we participated to learn more about the local Chinese culture. Here we were watching a live Chinese Opera show outside the Chinese Temple in Chinatown.
[Photo below] Through our exploration and visit, we had also stopped at the Chinese Guan Di temple in Chinatown. (Maps location: https://goo.gl/maps/ReAiBpRKPTo). Lots of festivities happening outside and inside the temple and we stepped in to take lots of photos for Maps.

[Photo below] Our brother Pavel ringing the temple bell to bring good luck and good fortune for all visitors.
[Photo below] A few photos of the myriads of items for sale in Chinatown, where bargaining is a must. Fresh flowers for sale in Chinatown.

Summary:
This is definitely a must visit place for all visitors and local alike, especially during the festive season. It's located right in the heart of Kuala Lumpur and well connected via public transport.
For visitors, feel free to get in touch with us if you need any assistance or advice and we will try our best to help you.
Wishing all a most happy and prosperous Chinese Lunar New Year 2019.

Great post @StephenAbraham, thanks for sharing with us!
It looks like you all had a great time, and updating some photos on Google Maps in the process never hurt no one.
The Maha Mariammam temple you visited looks really interesting.
Do you know if it was built for a specific reason or as a celebration for something?

It looks nice and well organizing. I did several times traveling to Malaysia especially KL, Melaka, Penang. It's amazing. Keep it up.
