Re: Introduce Yourself - April 2017 (Bella from Hong Kong)

Hello World, thank Gus for making a good start! This is Bella from Hong Kong, nice to meet you all! I've been an active Local Guide since 2016. Feel free read about me and you will find why I'm an active LG in both Hong Kong and Macau.

  1. Name: Bella, a.k.a. FunE
  2. Location: Hong Kong
  3. What do I love about being a Local Guide: I love food and coffee, especially those in traditional restaurants and local cafes. I love exploring the history of cities, going to museums and historical sites is a great way to learn about the city. Being a LG, I can share my knowledge about local historical spot and spots for satisfying food. In return, I learn great places from other LG's reviews and contributions.
  4. I love to share: Other than adding, editing and (sadly) removing places, I love to share photos of places, especially photos of food. Professional foodies like me can tell if they like the restaurant at a glance. Also, I learn from Google's advice, I upload menus of restaurants so that other LGs and users may plan their meals ahead. Other than just photos, I share photo spheres with my LG 360 Cam. Surprisingly, a photo of a hotel washroom in Kuala Lumpur earns me over 35,000 views, see link below if you are interested. (Now you realise how important a washroom is 😄 )
  5. How did I hear about Local Guides: I can hardly remember which my very first review but I remember when I decided to contribute persistently to Google Maps. It was when I first hosted the Hong Kong Meet-Up 2016. I learnt from other LGs that there's a marvellous event that Google invites contributors to HQ for the yearly Summit which all travel, accommodation and meals are included!! That is a very BIG incentive and keeps me contributing to the Maps in every way I can. And then I learn from regular stats sent by Google, how my contributions help other LGs and users on their way to explore places that I've been to. Happiness is all about sharing, isn't it? 🙂
  6. Fun Fact About Me: I was born in Hong Kong in 1990, when she was still a British colony (I hold passports issued by the UK and HKSAR). I was raised up in both Chinese and British cultures (I write in Traditional Chinese and speak in Cantonese, a very amazing language). After 20 years of handover to the Chinese government, I find Hong Kong struggles to maintain the balance of history, traditions and places on both cultures. As a Local Guide, I'd like to help everyone to understand about Hong Kong in a well-rounded manner.
Besides, my mum was born in Macau. This makes our family travel to Macau at least twice a year, including Chinese New Year celebration and tomb-sweeping seasons. (Recently, I got my Macau Perm. ID Card! Yay!) You can find my traces in Macau on the Maps too, I know how to avoid crowds and the best spots for Portuguese food.

About FunE (Fun(勳), is a word of my Chinese name, E sounds like aunt in Cantonese, Fun + E = Aunt Fun, and it sounds like 'Funny' in English, it's all about Fun!)

FunE is another role I play, a miniature photographer, feel free to check my pages out

My one dollar is still in my wallet...

Re: Introduce Yourself - April 2017

Brian, I've been teaching 30+ years, and you're right.  I try to convince my students that the best way for them to learn themselves is to help someone else understand.  In much the same way, trying to help others understand the world (a little at a time) has helped me to understand the world a bit better.
