How to take photos for jetsetters

Airports can be busy places, but there is a lot that you can see and capture with your camera if you have some downtime before your flight. From the check-in area to the observation deck, there are several locations in an airport you can explore to take great photos. Sharing these photos on Google Maps can help others know more about the airport before they visit.

Here are a few tips for taking great photos the next time you find yourself flying to your next adventure.

1. Know the rules

(Local Guides Eric Tse)Before you start taking photos at the airport, familiarize yourself with the airport’s rules. At most airports around the world, it’s prohibited to take photos in or near the security screening areas, security monitors, or of airline or security employees. You should also avoid taking photos of other passengers where they can be easily recognized.

2. Showcase the architecture and design

Look around the airport to see what architecture and design elements set it apart from others. Sometimes there are unique building elements or art installations that can be fun to capture. If there is an interesting ceiling, wall, or walkway, try photographing wide to show the subject matter within the environment of the airport. This can also help others understand the size of the airport’s interior space.

3. Explore the shopping area and food court

If you’re going to have downtime at an airport, it’s good to know what you can do (and eat!) while you wait to board your flight. Show others the shops and food vendors available to them while they wait for their flight. If there is a row of shops, take a wide view to capture the variety of stores.

4. Photograph the observation area

At many airports, you are permitted to take photos from an observation area or a large window with a view of the jet bridges and plane activity. These are areas where people can enjoy watching planes land and depart. You can typically photograph through the glass, and capture the outside view with the activity on the tarmac. If there are people walking by, try to shoot wide and juxtapose the large size of the viewing window with the size of people or objects in the frame.

5. Capture accessibility information

Another way to take great photos for jetsetters is to look out for the helpful accessibility information that can be found at check-in, elevators, bathrooms, and gate seating areas. Share these photos on Maps to help those who could benefit from these features.

Thank you for your how to @Christina-NYC

As you say, the airport needs security considerations. On the other hand, Because the entrants first visit, the building with the highest peak art in the area is adopted. Therefore it is a suitable subject for photography.

I got drunk in the atmosphere of Portland airport security area🛫. The image of Portland which is flashy and famous, but light entering from the mesh-like glass changed all colors to hard and sharp blue. I was able to cool down my heart that was getting hot in Portland. Besides, there was a strolling guitarist in the security area! After all it was Portland airport😮.
