Re: HOW DO YOU SAY THE WORD LOCAL GUIDE IN YOUR NATIVE LANGUAGE?

@LucioV I tried it now 😂😂😂😂. If I want to write the sound in English as how I understand it this is how it goes. Gwideh Locali 😂😂😂. I love italiano 😊😊

Re: HOW DO YOU SAY THE WORD LOCAL GUIDE IN YOUR NATIVE LANGUAGE?

Interesting topic!

Taiwan uses Traditional Chinese also so 在地(local)嚮導(guide) works, but "local" in Taiwan would be most likely translated to 當地 'Dang Di'. And "guide" might be translated to 導遊 'Dao You' that means "tour guide"

在 has the meaning of "exist"
當 means "that" in this case and should be used if you as a 3rd party referring to a local

In 台語 however, the word 導遊 (guide) is a borrowed word from other dialect. And it sounds like soy sauce.
在地人 tsāi-tē-lâng "local guy" sounds more native. 人 means person or human. Just like 地元の人 used in Japanese.

Love this thread! Especially as we have so much diversity in the Local Guides program.

In Singapore, our first language is English so Local Guides is well, Local Guides. However, almost everyone in Singapore speaks a second language. As for me, I speak Chinese, and Local Guides translates to 在地嚮導, pronounced zai di xiang dao 🙂

@HelloSamsonR

I am not speaking about technicality in which you are right on both encounters , I am  speaking about real life conditions. How will you explain a villager who doesn't speak English. I will never say words such as you mentioned I will simply say

"बाटो देखाउने मान्छे".

@BishowvijayaP wrote:

@Jnjoe

 Its पथ प्रदर्शक instead of बाटो देखाउने 😀😁😂😃😄😅😆.

In Nepali,

Local Guide = स्थानिय मार्गदर्शक

In literal way that is correct but it is more understood as

Local Guide - - >स्थानीय बाटो देखाउने--> Local way pointer

@BishowvijayaP

What do you say.
