I would like to contribute creating some indoor maps of commercial centers in my area that have'nt got yet.
This could be a good way to make some order in the mess of map points for the shops inside.
I would like to use https://maps.google.com/floorplans/myfloors?hl=it to upload inside maps and the android app to manually create a plan.
Is the program yet alive and managed? Which permissions should i collect to upload an inside map?

SolutionHi,
Please open this page:
https://maps.google.com/help/maps/indoormaps/faqs.html
and look at:
Who can contribute indoor maps to Google?
Property owners and their authorized representatives can upload floor plans and building layouts using the Google Maps Floor Plans beta tool or visit http://maps.google.com/floorplans

Jacek

@LucioV - I am not sure.
Personally, I think it is OK to:
- For Shopping Mall, take photo of the floor plan usually shown as part of the Shop Directory
- For the space I rent from the Owner, I can publish the map of the area rented to me.
- For Property Owner, they can publish what is not rented out or sold out to other people.
Of course, I am not a lawyer.

The owners/operators of these places would need to participate in the program in order for indoor mapping to be created, this is not a user-participation program.

Yes, i understand this, but what to do when the area is a mess, and indoor mapping could really help users?

Hi @Keith A,
I read it is now open to public to "Upload Indoor Map content" to Google.
Upload a floor plan to Google Maps
But that help page has no details on what is the requirement in order to pass the review and have the content published for Maps users' use.

Yes, anyone can upload a map, but only of a place of which they have rights to do so. You need to dig a bit on that page, but you will find:
Only the owners/operators will have these rights - maps are copyrighted by the creator, so copying them to upload without rights is copyright infrigement and will not be allowed by Google. And I think that if you go round a shopping centre with surveying tools to create your own map, security might take exception 😉
You would only be able to encourage those with the rights to participate in the program, but you will still be able to edit individual places within an establishment without a floorpan being uploaded.

HI @Keith A,
Yes, I read the help page I linked and I am aware of that.
"Have all <<necessary>> rights, permissions, and/or licenses to create or upload your content including any <<applicable>> intellectual property, survey, and building rights."
As <<necessary>> and <<applicable>> varies from place to place, so Google cannot tell the public what we need exactly before we can upload without violating local laws.
And once anyone complains, content will got take down.
As I said, I am not a lawyer.

Thanks all.
Today i will make a tryout with the floorplan app, in an large commercial center that has'nt got a map yet, i will let you know the results of my test.

Just to let you know.
The floorplan app told me to make 6 (six) walks inside the venue, each long 6 minutes....
Then asked me to make 2 walks outside, for each entry to the venue, each long 6 minutes.
Then asked me to upload (what? previews? does'nt know), failed many times, don't know if uploaded something and don't know what.
In my floorplan dashboard cannot see anymore.
